Did you know that July 24th is National Tequila Day? That’s right, its the day to celebrate tequila and by law, you’re almost obligated to participate! Celebrate today with a spirit that provides a smooth taste in each and every sip (or shot!) ~ Hornitos Tequila.

*Mexico has the international rights to the word “tequila”
*Tequila contains 38-40% alcohol content but can also go up to 55% alcohol content
*Americans purchase 12.3 millions cases of tequila per year. Wow!
*Tequila is not made from cactus. Agave is actually in the lily family.
*It takes 8-12 years for the agave plant to mature enough to make tequila
*According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the most expensive bottle of tequila ever sold was purchased by a private collector for $225,000 in 2006. OMG!
So, celebrate National Tequila Day however you choose, or pay homage with one of the cocktail recipes below. Happy National Tequila Day!
- 2 parts Hornitos Spiced Honey Tequila
- 1/2 part lime juice
- 2 parts grapefruit juice
- Top with tonic
Preparation: Combine all ingredients except tonic in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice. Top with tonic.
- 1 1/4 parts Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila
- 1/4 part Agave
- 1/2 part lemon juice
- Lemon wedge
Preparation; Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain over fresh ice. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
- 2 parts Hornitos Plata Tequila
- 1/2 part lime juice
- 3/4 part Simple Syrup
Preparation: Muddle one jalapeno slice in a glass. Combine the remainder of ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into the glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a jalapeno slice.
