There’s still time to catch a holiday classic before the new year. “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” plays at the Historic Howell Theater this weekend.
Christmas is rapidly approaching, and Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) realizes they need a Christmas tree. But instead of buying one from a lot or a tree farm, the entire family goes into the woods to get the tree. But they forgot to bring cutting tools, which results in them uprooting the tree.
After that mishap, Clark is determined to make this Christmas the best Christmas ever and tries to get his wife (Beverly D’Angelo) and kids (Juliette Lewis and Johnny Galecki) into the spirit. He tries to get the house decorations and tree just right while dealing with his and his wife’s bickering parents. Then his wife’s hick cousin (Randy Quaid) and his family abruptly show up and camp out on his lawn in their RV.
To further add insult to injury, Clark’s boss (Brian Doyle-Murray) reneges on his Christmas bonus, which Clark desperately needs. Will Clark be able to keep it together and understand the true meaning of Christmas?
Though the film received mixed reviews when it was first released, it has become a holiday classic over the years.
“National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” runs Saturday, December 26 through Monday, December 28. Show times and tickets are available at the theater’s website.
