Even though Naperville kids have been in school for a couple of weeks, Labor Day weekend traditionally marks the end of summer. The annual tradition, Naperville’s Last Fling, sponsored by the Naperville Jaycees, celebrates the final moments of summer. From rocking concerts to Labor Day parade, families will have a many opportunities to party away the summer.
Last Fling, and all of its activities, takes over Downtown Naperville starting on September 4. The schedule of event varies from the thrills of the carnival to the headliners on the main stage. While some events require tickets, some activities, like the Family Fun Land, are completely free. The myriad of activities can keep a family occupied for the entire holiday weekend.
A few can’t miss events include:
Main Event Stage performances: This year’s headliners on the Main Event Stage appeal to the rock crowd. Whether you gravitate to 80s hair bands (Lita Ford on Friday night), alternative rock (Chevelle on Sunday night) or popular rock (Daughtry on Saturday), the main stage has a concert for you. The Main Event Stage requires tickets (still available), but the prices are quite reasonable for this caliber of talent ($15-$30) If you are looking for local talent, the Entertainment Stage is completely free. Enjoy some great bands under the tent while sipping on a beverage or a quick bite.
Family Fun Land: For families with smaller children, the Family Fun Land provides hours of entertainment. Completely free, the area offers bounce houses, a petting zoo and other family friendly activities. Additionally, Calum “Dez” Worthy, Disney Channel star, will be appearing on Sunday. For complete details on how to meet him, please visit the Last Fling website.
Carnival: The older, or more daring kids, will be drawn to the thrill of the carnival. To make sure kids get every thrill, the Carnival Mega Ticket will keep the adrenaline pumping. The unlimited ride pass is perfect for the kid who wants to ride over and over. Last Fling offers a variety of packages for individuals, families and single ride options.
Fling Mile: Naperville is an active city. The Fling Mile, Rooster 5K and Fling Challenge allow residents to burn off some calories from the holiday parties. On Labor Day morning, participants will put on their running shoes to support the Naperville Jaycees. Race registration is available on-line or on the morning of the race.
