There are more than a few good reasons to check out Myth spa in Bangkok Thailand. In a city knee deep in every conceivable version of a massage parlor or day spa, it can be a daunting process to find a place that offers the “sweet spot” of service, standards, and qualified therapists. The brainchild of entrepreneur Ms. Passavaree “Tasa” Soonthornsima; Myth is determined to separate themselves from the crowd. They take a unique approach that is meant to appeal to a very specific demographic often neglected by the industry – Bangkok’s upwardly mobile young professionals.
“I remember what it was like for me when I used to have to work in an office until 9PM. All I wanted was a good massage and it was nearly impossible to find. I wanted to make a spa that catered to that crowd. Rest assured, you will receive a decent massage at an affordable price. We use only qualified therapist and quality products in a hygienic and laid back setting”, asserted Ms. Tasa.
Open daily from 12 noon to 12 midnight, Myth is an evocative blend of the modern and the traditional. The décor is inspired by the historic murals and inscriptions about traditional massage, herbal medicine, and astrology from Bangkok’s famed Wat Po. Located in a multi-level dwelling on Soi Ruamrudee not far from the Ploenchit BTS station, they are a genuine respite from the hectic madness of the city. The first level houses their boutique retail shop where you can purchase their signature beauty products along with Thai made textiles and ready to wear products and home décor items. There are also several treatment rooms as expected and an astrology room on the top level for in depth readings, which is quite unexpected. They are also probably one of the only spas I have ever been to that has a bar on the upstairs deck, which is available for private parties and special occasion events like bachelorette or corporate parties.
Myth Products & Treatments
Myth produces and sells its own herbal products made from indigenous Thai medicinal herbs, known collectively as “waan” in Thai. The benefits of these beauty and skincare products are rooted in “myth” and magical folklore while still being scientifically proven through modern laboratory testing. The treatment menu is pretty standard with foot massage, oil, Thai, herbal compress, aromatherapy and body scrubs all represented. Prices start at 200 BHT for a 25 minute foot massage on up to the most expensive which is 2,500 BHT for a 2 hour “4 Hands Oil Massage”.
They also have memberships you can buy where you receive significant discounts by buying treatments in bulk to be used over a 6 month period. On my visit I was treated to a therapeutic 2 hour “Warm Oil Massage”. I appreciated the fact that they had me fill out a health survey that asked about my preferences, such as where I like to be massaged and where to avoid. This attention to detail is usually only practiced in higher end day spas in Bangkok.
My massage started off with an invigorating mini -foot scrub and hot tea before being ushered to the dimly lit treatment room. I like the red brick and candle light and the room smelled nice as soon as I stepped in. Another bonus for me was the music. You won’t find any annoying “Green Music” or typical spa yarns on the sound system. Instead I was greeted by music from my favorite soul diva “Sade”, and an easy listening music playlist that took me back to my childhood growing up in the USA. It was an unexpected delight that helped me relax and feel immediately comfortable and at home. Things only got better as the therapist took her time and was very attentive to the areas of tension and stress that riddled my aging body. I was impressed by her ability to change direction in response to my personal needs. I found myself moving in and out of consciousness as I surrendered completely to the deep tissue massage that ultimately relieved every ounce of stress and left me feeling like a gelatinous mass of gooey relaxation.
I can honestly say that I enjoyed Myth spa and will likely go back again in the future. They offer a nice alternative to what everyone else is doing, while still giving me the professionalism and quality that I desire. Myth is a unique lifestyle brand that celebrates ancient Thai traditions but offers a fresh perspective that is a natural fit for a contemporary life in an urban city.
