“Murder She Baked: A Plum Pudding Mystery,” starring Allison Sweeney, premieres on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on Sun., Nov. 22, 2015. The Christmas mystery is based on the Hannah Swenson series of mystery stories by bestselling author Joanna Fluke.
“Murder She Baked” airs during Hallmark’s “Most Wonderful Movies of Christmas,” the counterpart to Hallmark Channel’s “Countdown to Christmas” holiday programming. Hallmark presents festive, uplifting holiday movies during the months of Nov. and Dec. to promote the Christmas spirit.
Hannah Swenson (Sweeney) is the owner of the Cookie Jar, a popular bakery and coffee shop in the scenic town of Eden Lake, Minn.. The Cookie Jar is a casual gathering spot for the townspeople and shoppers.
This season, the nearby Christmas tree lot is attracting a lot of business because people are shopping for their holiday decorations and the mood is festive. Hannah delivers cookies to be served to customers and the lot owner asks if she can make plum pudding. Hannah regularly creates recipes for tasty pastries, which are included in the book series.
Hannah has two handsome suitors; Detective Mike Kingston (Cameron Mathison) and Dr. Norman Rhodes (Gabriel Hogan), the town dentist. Hannah is in love with both of the men and they are both in love with Hannah, so they are rivals for her affection. Mike and Norman both buy a Christmas tree as a gift for Hannah, causing an awkward situation.
Hannah’s mother, Delores Swenson (Barbara Niven) is rooting for Norman because she sees the stable dentist as the better catch. Norman might be the perfect man, but Mike may be a bit more exciting.
There is a murder in the small town and Hannah happens to discover the body. Hannah has been the first person on a murder scene before and she has a habit of getting involved in the investigation, sometimes putting herself into danger.
Police investigate and they find that the victim is a man with a questionable past. Hannah cannot stop being inquisitive, in spite of many warnings from Mike, so she runs her own side investigation in this cozy mystery. As she gets closer to the truth, danger lurks because the killer is on the loose and is on her tail. Mike has to rush to solve the mystery and keep Hannah safe.
