Out of the Mouths of Babes, Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has just the soundtrack as October begins and the holidays start to come into view.
With live performances offered every day including some holidays, Passim offers a diverse lineup of established and promising talent. Passim has lined up a collection of new and returning musicians such as award-winning singer-songwriter Meg Hutchinson, North Dakota world touring folksinger Tom Brosseau who first learned the acoustic guitar from his grandmother, and ‘The Lied To’s’ who shows audiences how to navigate difficult relationships through song. Kick off October with a folksinger Tom Brosseau who has not only taken the stage with famous acts such as Juliana Hatfield and PJ Harvey, but has toured the world from Ireland to Japan in all kinds of venues. His music was also chosen by Natalie Portman to promote FINCA, a nonprofit organization that helps those living in poverty. He will perform at Club Passim on Thursday, October 1 at 8 p.m. Accomplished singer-songwriter Angela Easterling opens.
From Chicago, folk and soul group, ‘Mouths of Babes’ is made up of Ty Greenstein of Girlyman and Ingrid Elizabeth of Coyote Grace. Their soothing, thoughtful lyrics paint a vivid picture of life and love. They will take the stage at Club Passim on Friday, December 2 at 8 p.m. With her latest album entitled ‘Light is a Ghost,’ indie folk-pop artist Julia Weldon opens.
Local singer-songwriter Kat Quinn has appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and her music has been featured on film and commercials. Her new album, ‘Rust to Gold’ will debut on October 6. She will take the stage on Saturday, October 3 at 3 p.m. Opening the afternoon is Jo Kroger, who recently released her new EP, ‘Troubled Night.’
On Saturday night, October 3, Passim reaches back to its roots with an accomplished folk singer-songwriter Tom Paxton! Having received three Lifetime Achievement Awards and recorded over 60 albums, Paxton has been performing even way back when it was called Club 47. His latest album is called Redemption Road and he will play an exclusive show at Harvard Square’s First Parish Church at 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy the sultry, pensive musings and rich, imaginative lyrics of nationally-touring, award-winning singer Meg Hutchinson on Saturday, October 3 back at the Club Passim stage at 8 p.m. Not only is she a performer, but she is dedicated to supporting mental health literacy.
Club Passim rounds out the week with a CD release party largely ponders complex relationships and the twists and turns of love. The Lied To’s with Susan Levine and Doug Kwartler debuted their new album Club Passim in February. They will perform on Sunday, October 4 at 2 p.m. That night, watch Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards take Club Passim by storm with their rock and roll rhythms with local multi-instrumentalist Zachariah Hickman opening at 8 p.m.
