Morgan Freeman, one of America’s most successful and popular award-winning actors, is the step-father of E’Dena Hines who was reportedly stabbed to death on Sunday morning. The 33-year-old step-granddaughter of Freeman was said to have been killed by her ex-boyfriend. The grisly incident involved an attempted exorcism, according to Fox News on Monday morning. Some reports claim that the deceased woman’s grandmother was Morgan Freeman’s first wife – which explains the contradictions in some reports referring to Hines as Freeman’s step-daughter, others referring to her as his granddaughter, and still others referring to her has his step-granddaughter.
Regardless, Hines – a relative of Freeman – was stabbed some 16 times close to her apartment building which is in the Manhattan borough of New York City. The more specific location of her apartment is at West 162nd Street in the Washington Heights portion of Manhattan. The incident happened at approximately 3 a.m.
New York City Police claim a man named Lamar Davenport, 30, was arrested at the scene of the murder. After being taken into custody, Davenport was then transported to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. At the hospital, he was given a psychiatric evaluation, according to the New York Post. The suspect goes by the name Lyric in his attempt at having a career as a rapper. He has been arrested in the past for possession of marijuana as well as petty larceny. He has two young children, but Hines was not the mother of either child. As of 5 a.m. Monday morning, Yahoo! News is reporting that Davenport has finally been charged with the murder – after it was previously reported throughout the day on Sunday that no charges had been yet filed against him.
A man named George Hudacko reportedly saw the attack from his apartment which is located on the third floor of the building. He called 911 during the incident and says he begged authorities to come. As Davenport attacked Hines, Hudacko asserts that, “The girl was making a lot of noise, screaming.” He also said that as Davenport attacked her, he screamed,
Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils! In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out!
Police officers on the scene were forced to physically restrain Davenport as he continued to attack Hines. He kept attacking though she was obviously already dead. Davenport made stabbing motions with his arm without a knife in his hand any longer. The knife was sticking out of her chest.
Morgan Freeman made a statement following the tragedy. He said,
The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.
A friend of Hines, Ray Rosario, said he went out to dinner with Hines, Davenport and other people on Saturday evening. Rosario claims that he’s never seen E’Dena happier. According to the Daily Beast, Morgan denied rumors of being romantically involved with the step-daughter in the past. She was often seen with him at public events. Hines studied acting and had just returned to New York City from Tennessee recently. She returned to New York City after being offered a starring role in an independent comedy titled “Landing Up.”
