The monsters are coming! The Columbia County Rotary Club has announced that the 2015 Monster Dash, featuring 5k and 10K race options, is taking over Columbia View Park on Oct. 10. The fun gets underway at 5 p.m.
The park is the start of the race, which winds its way through St. Helens and down Old Portland Road to McCormick Park. For those who want to participate and experience the apocalypse, there’s a single mile course, dubbed “The Monster Mile.” KOHI AM 1600 will broadcast at Columbia View Park and provide theme music for the survivors (or, those who finish the race).
Monsters, zombies and other surprises await racers in McCormick Park. Dockside Steak and Pasta and Columbia County Brewing are cooking up a cornbread and chili feast suitable for all ages, while adult racers can also collect a coupon for a cold beer. Zingti Massage will offer free post-race massage to sooth sore legs and tired muscles.
A costume contest gives participants a chance to get a little goofy. For those who participate in the run while in costume, prizes will be awarded to the best male costume, best female costume and best couples costume.
The Monster Dash is more than just a Halloween-themed chance to run. It is a fundraiser for Columbia County’s military veterans. Registration fees are $45 for the 10K race; $35 for the 5K race and $5 for the monster mile. This fee includes the post-race meal and, possibly, a Monster Dash T-shirt.
