On Friday, Leo Hohmann of WND reported, based on a video captured by Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch showing the growing concern of American Muslims demanding that Shariah law be implemented, by-passing the U.S. Constitution which does not allow such a law to be implemented. Although not all Muslims want Shariah law to be implemented, other Muslims want such laws. The camera crew from the David Horowitz Freedom Center has released the video posted to Jihad Watch, in which documentary filmmaker Ami Horowitz documents some Somali men and women on the streets in Minnesota answering simple questions.
Some who praised America said that it was easy to be Muslim in America, persecution was non-existent and that they are free to worship and one Muslim, a Somali-American stated, “This is a free country… that’s the beauty of it. We love America… it’s a great country, freedom of choice, freedom of religion, so we don’t have any issues.” However, as the interviews went on, others joined in and stated that they wish to over-turn American laws and support violence against those who insult their prophet.
One such Muslim stated, when asked if it was okay to kill someone who insulted the Islamic prophet, Muhammad. He said yes, and it makes him angry and is perfectly fine for anyone to kill another if anyone insults the so-called, prophet. The Somali Muslim man stated, “Yes. Because when you, every day you face frustration. And you know, every day you have… you’re mad, or somebody says that, and you feel hate your soul. You could do anything you wanted. If you committed suicide, you don’t care, because your heart, your heart is telling you… because you couldn’t take that much hate. Or you, you kill someone.”
Another Muslim stated, “That really p*sses me off, you know what I mean. I mean, they know it is a button to push. It makes me angry. Everyone gets like the big freedom. And then, they don’t see that, the freedom that they’re getting is causing a problem. And causing hatreds for other people.”
Then as the interview went on, other Muslims were asked if they prefer Shariah law over American law. One Muslim said, “I’m a Muslim. I prefer Shariah law.” “Shariah law, yes,” said another Muslim and then one who sported a Nets baseball cap said, “Of course, yeah.” Asked if any of his friends felt the same way, he replied, “Of course if you’re a Muslim, yeah.” In reference to the video, Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch stated, “Note the unanimous opposition to the freedom of speech and support for criminalizing criticism of Islam and even for murdering those who insult Muhammad… all freely and openly expressed on a sunny day in Minneapolis.”
In April 2015, the FBI arrested six Somali Muslims in Minneapolis and San Diego for allegedly planning to travel to Syria to join the ISIS. Minnesota has the largest Somali population in the country and since 2007, at least 22 young Somali men have traveled from Minnesota to Somalia to fight with the terrorist organization Al-Shabab, CNS News reported. CNS News also reported that prior to those arrests, four Minnesota residents were charged in connection with supporting armed groups in Syria, including the Islamic State (ISIS).
