The next-generation, or shall we now call them current-generation, consoles have been on the shelves, and in homes, since late last year. It has been, as it usually has, a race to be on top between Microsoft and Sony with their new consoles. The PlayStation 4 has dominated overall in sales since its release in the United States on November 15, 2013. The Xbox One released a week later on November 22, 2013. In a recent turn of events, Microsoft’s Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 for the first time this year in April.
The top selling games that month, according to NPD, were reported to be Mortal Kombat, Grand Theft Auto V, Battlefield: Hardline, MLB 15: The Show, and Minecraft. E3 2015 is about two weeks away and we’re all waiting to see what Microsoft has ready for us. They plan to have a major presence at the event, but they also remind us that E3 is not the only major event that is right around the corner.
Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, responded to a fan on Twitter who asked if Microsoft would be holding some major reveals for Gamescom. Spencer tweeted, “We should have as much new content at Gamescom as we will at E3.”
Gamescom will be held in Cologne, Germany August 5th through August 9th., which is less than two months after E3. While Spencer didn’t elaborate further about Microsoft’s plans for Gamescom, we know that we can expect some blockbuster reveals and announcements at the event.
GameSpot reminds us that Microsoft announced the Xbox exclusivity of Rise of the Tomb Raider during last year’s show. Plus other significant announcements out of Gamescom from Microsoft have included a 1TB Xbox One console and a white Sunset Overdrive system.
Sony had confirmed that they are foregoing a press conference at this year’s event. This will offer Microsoft the ability to take center stage and wow the crowd while Sony prepares for a media briefing at Paris Games week in October to hold off their big news announcements for later in the year.
A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft stated the same claims of holding off some of their major announcements for Gamescom on Xbox Wire.
This year, we have an amazing games lineup to share (who knew it’d be so hard to pack all of our exclusive E3 premieres into an hour and a half?),” it said on the Xbox News Wire. “So we’re saving a lot of exciting reveals for Gamescom in August.
We will keep you posted on all of Microsoft’s announcements at E3 and Gamescom 2015 and everything in between!
