A major update is coming to the Xbox One on Nov. 12, and among the new features that will be coming to the system is a brand-new user interface for the system’s home functionality. The “New Xbox One Experience,” as Microsoft has dubbed it, features a revamped visualization of where gamers can navigate from their home screen, to games, to other apps they may be using.
Today, Microsoft has released a new video that highlights some of the features and look of the upcoming new UI. You can view the video above for those who wish to see for themselves.
The idea of gamers being able to follow a game, therefore a developer, is brilliant because it allows people to stay up-to-date on the latest updates and information for a title by showing news on their Xbox One Activity Feed. In a day and age when games have such long life-cycles after launch, this will be a great way for gamers to stay in touch with the titles they are most invested in long after launch.
“You can also quickly see which of your friends play the games that you own, and join them in a Party or multiplayer session, right from the Game Hub. And you can even view the community’s most popular Game DVR clips and screenshots for each game. We’re pretty thrilled with all of this improved social connectivity; our mission with the new Game Hubs is to make it as easy as possible for you to keep current on your favorite games, and easily find friends to play them with,” Microsoft wrote.
Achievement hunters will be pleased to know they can see all of their achievements for each game in its respective Game Hub. Stats such as play times, game progress and overall Gamerscore are also listed. “You can also quickly check a variety of leaderboards to see how you stack up against your friends, and compare your Achievements progress with them.”
As an Xbox One Preview member, I’ve had the chance to use the new Xbox One interface and I must say it’s far better than the one we’ve been dealing with since the system launched. There is a bit of a learning curve to get passed, but it’s a lot quicker to find what you need, whether that is checking out your game library, getting into the Xbox Store or learning more about the games you care about.
Fellow Xbox One gamers should be excited for the update as it will hit the system on Nov. 12. In addition to the revamped UI will be the highly anticipated capability of the console being able to play Xbox 360 games, which will be comprised of over 100 games from the start.
