As companies set high bars for what fans can expect, the challenge soon becomes: how do you top what you’ve already done? For Microsoft and the Xbox One, 2015 has been a busy year, especially when you look at the final three or four months of the games release season.
Since August, Microsoft has released Rare Replay, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Forza Motorsport 6, Halo 5 Guardians and they will release Rise of the Tomb Raider (timed-exclusive) next month. It’s been a very busy and wonderful time for Xbox One owners, as so many high-quality Xbox One exclusives have debuted.
You may be sitting there thinking Microsoft won’t have much left to compete with companies like Sony and Nintendo next year, but that isn’t necessarily true at all. Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg said they plan to have more games releasing for the Xbox One in 2016 than they did this year.
“We expect to sell more games next year and we have more game titles releasing next year than we do this year. If you start to look at that list of things that are coming, we have Quantum Break in April, Killer Instinct Season 3, Recore, Scalebound, Crackdown, Sea of Thieves, Halo Wars 2 and Gears of War 4 and probably some [games] we haven’t announced,” Greenberg told Kinda Funny Games.
Those are some very impressive games for Xbox gamers to look forward to in 2016. Quantum Break is the lone remaining Xbox One exclusive, that was announced during the 2013 Xbox One reveal event, and still has yet to be released. The game will be launching this coming April 5, 2016.
So much has and continues to be made about the sales of the PS4 and Xbox One, but regardless of how you compare the two, both are widely surpassing the sales pace previously set by the PS3 and Xbox 360, respectively. Greenberg talked about the success Xbox One has enjoyed thus far.
“Globally, if you look at Xbox One sales month by month and how we stack up against where the Xbox 360 was, and I think Xbox 360 was widely regarded as a huge success for us, we are month by month selling more Xbox Ones than we did Xbox 360s.
“We’re actually widening that gap. As we rate ourselves against ourselves, we’re doing very well. We’re also selling more more games than we sold last-gen. We’re seeing the console market being extremely healthy. If you look at the games lineup this year and you look at the games lineup next year, Halo will sell a lot of consoles, Gears will sell a lot of consoles, so for us it’s been really healthy,” Greenberg said.
Halo 5 Guardians has launched today for the Xbox One and there is one exclusive left for the system in 2015, that being Rise of the Tomb Raider. The game will launch on Xbox One on Nov. 10, and then PC and PS4 in 2016.
