October is a month filled with haunted events, decorated homes, lawns and masquerade parties, but it is also a great month to catch an event at the Memphis Orpheum Theatre or the Halloran Centre for Performing Arts & Education. Below is a lineup of events, provided by the Memphis Orpheum Theatre, that will take place in October 2015.
Festival of Praise Concert – at the Orpheum Theatre- Featuring Fred Hammond, Kim Burrell, Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker & Israel Houghton

Original members Tito, Marlon and Jackie Jackson celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Jackson 5. The Jacksons put on an amazing show and a tribute that includes all of their mega-hits as well as hits made famous by the late Michael Jackson. The energetic show consists of all of their famous dance moves and costumes, and their performance is both exciting and poignant as it includes video footage and retrospectives of Michael and his world-wide appeal as the greatest entertainer of all time.

From Jazz (Weather Report, Freddie Hubbard), to Rock (Frank Zappa and the Mothers), to Pop (Genesis/Phil Collins) to Gospel (Ron Kenoly, Rebecca St. James), Chester Thompson has surpassed the boundaries of musical genres. Chester’s performance and recording experiences have influenced over three decades of music and musicians. Whether he is playing drum kit or percussion, Chester’s masterful subtleties and unyielding time create the firm musical foundation for any musical genre. Every time Chester plays he gives 110% – there is no such thing as practice.

1971 – Southern Circuit Independent Film Series – Halloran Centre at 225 S. Main Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38103
On March 8th, 1971, eight ordinary citizens broke into an FBI office in Media, PA and removed every file in the office. Mailed anonymously, the stolen documents started to show up in newsrooms. The heist yielded a trove of damning evidence, including an illegal surveillance program overseen by Bureau director J. Edgar Hoover. Despite one of the largest investigations ever conducted, the FBI was unable to catch the burglars. Those responsible have never revealed their identities. Until now. The filmmaker will host a post-show Q&A.

DINNER ON STAGE – Special Event – the Orpheum Theatre at 203 S. Main Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38103
Dine on the stage where the stars perform! The Orpheum’s Dinner on Stage includes an inside peek into the stories and history of the historic Orpheum as told by Pat Halloran. The evening includes a champagne reception, a tour of the theatre and back stage, a brief film in the auditorium about The Orpheum’s history, a three-course meal with wine, Broadway trivia, and an enlightening Q&A session. This event is limited to 90 guests.

KATE CAMPBELL Concert – Halloran Centre at 225 S. Main Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38103
Singer-songwriter Kate Campbell took up piano at age seven before switching to the guitar as a teenager during the folk-rock heyday of the 70s. Since then, over the course of thirteen albums, she has written, recorded and performed almost exclusively on the acoustic guitar. On her recent album, 1000 Pound Machine, Campbell returns to the instrument of her childhood and enlists Will Kimbrough to produce the eleven-song disc. Campbell’s subtle piano and clear vocals are complimented by sparse arrangements featuring Kimbrough’s consummate guitar playing and soulful sounds from the legendary Spooner Oldham.

Sultry vocalist and pianist Norah Jones has a unique blend of jazz and traditional vocal pop with hints of bluesy country and contemporary folk. Jones has won nine Grammy Awards and has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.

Cat in the Hat – Family Series at the Orpheum Theatre at 203 S. Main Street, Memphis, Tennessee 38103
From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears at their door, Sally and her brother know that the Cat in the Hat is the most mischievous cat they will ever meet. Suddenly the rainy afternoon is transformed by the Cat and his antics. Will their house ever be the same? Can the kids clean up before mom comes home? With some tricks (and a fish) and Thing Two and Thing One, with the Cat in The Hat, the fun’s never done! Recommended for Ages 3+.
