Melissa McCarthy wowed fans with her 50-pound low-carb diet weight loss at the premiere of her new movie “Spy.” McCarthy, who has lost more weight since April, will launch a plus size clothing line this fall.
McCarthy, who lost 50 pounds with a low-carb diet, said society needs to stop fat-shaming plus size women. “People don’t stop at size 12,” Melissa told More May 26. “I feel like there’s a big thing missing where you can’t dress to your mood above a certain number.”
Melissa, who was once a size 6, said women don’t stop caring about fashion simply because they’re plus size, and she doesn’t understand why this consumer segment continues to be marginalized.
“[Malls] segregate plus-size [women],” said McCarthy. “It’s an odd thing that you can’t go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. ‘We’ll put you gals over there because we don’t want to see you and you probably don’t want to be seen.’
Melissa added: “There is just this weird thing about how we perceive women in this country. I would love to be a part of breaking that down.”
McCarthy will launch her plus-sized clothing line, called Melissa McCarthy 7-7, in August. The clothing line will contain 80 pieces from sizes 4 to 28 and will be priced from $59 to $159.
So where can you can buy Melissa’s clothes? They will be sold at retailers such as Macy’s, Nordstrom’s and Bloomingdale’s.
Weight Loss Plan: Low Carb Diet and Pilates
Melissa lost 50 pounds by following a low-carb, high-protein diet, Celebrity Health & Fitness reported. She also worked out, doing Pilates and walking.
McCarthy has not specified which low carb diet she followed, but Kim Kardashian and Tim McGraw have lost dramatic amounts of weight on the low-carb Atkins, ketogenic and Paleo diets.
Low-carb diets such as the Atkins, ketogenic and Atkins diets promote rapid weight loss by forcing the body to burn fat for fuel, according to obesity expert Dr. Eric Westman, co-author of Keto Clarity.
The 5-foot-2 McCarthy, who previously weighed 265 pounds, is now healthier after cutting bread and pasta out of her diet. “Melissa has been on a high-protein, low carb diet,” said an insider. “She’s been making small changes and seeing big results.”
McCarthy’s weight loss motivation was a desire to be healthy for her daughters, Vivian and Georgette, with husband Ben Falcone. Melissa, who has been overweight most of her life, said she had tried many times to lose weight on various diets. With her low-carb diet, it appears she may reach her weight loss goals.
