I had the pleasure of listening to one of the cuts from the newest album being released by Anthony Nelson and the Overcomers. Before listening to the music I had no idea who these people were. But you can best believe I will be listening to them again. Not only that, I am sure we will all be very familiar with them in the years to come.
Anthony Nelson and The Overcomers is a contemporary gospel and Christian group founded on the principles of the Living Word, Christ Jesus. Based on 1 John 5:1-5, this ensemble of Christian vocalists believe that those who are born-again believers in Christ Jesus and who have been adopted in the family of God are: 1) victorious, unconquerable and triumphant, 2) loving – love the Father and His beloved children and 3) obedient to God.
The ensemble was founded by songwriter, composer, producer and multi-instrument musician Anthony J. Nelson. After going through a tough season of immense spiritual and emotional pain and brokenness after the early home going of both of his parents, the Holy Spirit gave Anthony a vision in January of 2013 to form an ensemble of talented musicians and vocalists who would be committed and passionate about serving the LORD and who would assist in birthing out the seeds of music and lyrics placed in his spirit. Anthony, who comes from strong gospel roots that consist of his late grandmother Mrs. Elizabeth Brown and his late mother Mrs. Joyce Brown Nelson, discovered his musical gifting at the early age of 8 when he started playing alto and tenor saxophones. He later discovered dormant gifts to write lyrics, to compose songs and to play various instruments including the piano and keyboard, bass guitar and guitar.
Anthony has been named one of the Top 40 Movers and Shakers Under 40 by Divine Magazine (Fall 2010). He is an ordained deacon at the Iberville Christian Center under the tutelage of Dr. Terry Hasten, and a blogger for The Huffington Post. Anthony is a graduate of Southern University where he earned his B.S. degree with Magna Cum Laude honors, and a graduate of Louisiana State University where he earned his M.S. degree. He has also attended and/or conducted additional studies and research at Alabama A&M University, Penn State University, Purdue University, Indiana University, Columbia University (NY), and the University of Southern California (USC). Anthony is a very proud husband and father of two beautiful children.
In addition to Anthony, the Overcomers is comprised of several anointed vocalists including close relatives Melini Redditt, Hollis Brown Redditt, Lynn Burnett, Minister Michael Burnett, Shalandra “Dee” Irvin, and Charles Frazier.
The group’s forthcoming album Love Jesus, Love People will be released on January 29, 2016 and will include thirteen (13) songs that are solely purposed to usher the saints of God into the presence of God and to minister to unbelievers so that they may be saved from the wrath of God. This album consists of lyrics based on sound doctrine and the Gospel of Christ Jesus and musical compositions that represent various genres.
The debut single “Broken” was released on March 31, 2015 and has reached and continues to remain on the national Mediabase and Billboard Gospel Airplay charts!
