A tiny, adorable dog is on track to “change the world one doggy hug at a time.” He is so cute and has such a big personality that people simply cannot resist him. All 3.5 pounds of this little pooch are wrapped in the cutest furry coat, with the biggest, warmest eyes and the sweetest personality. The full-grown pup is Gizmo whom his human calls a wonderdoglet. Jen Adams, Gizmo’s human, has been busy keeping up with the little fellow’s numerous appearances. At the moment they are still getting the word out about their fundraiser. As of Nov. 2, there are only 11 days left to get a Gizmo’s Paws For Friendship Kindness shirt or sweatshirt of which a percentage goes to charity
Time is growing short to get a shirt featuring Gizmo’s image and the supply is growing even shorter. Gizmo’s animal assisted therapy group, Paws For Friendship, Inc. needs funding to purchase a small shed suitable for storage. Providing animal assisted therapy in facilities throughout the state, Paws for Friendship is a worldwide, all-volunteer organization that touches many lives when that is most needed through the love of their pets. A purchase will help the group raise the necessary funding, so please buy a shirt or two, or share the fundraiser with your social media friends.
Gizmo has been making much headway in popularity and public figure recognition. He’s got a big following on Facebook which Adams aptly calls Gizmo’s Frens. Little Gizmo is definitely the star of his Facebook page with hundreds of posted images, each one more endearing. The camera loves this tiny pooch and when you see those eyes, you simply melt. There is a small sampling of this delightful pup’s pictures with this article so readers can see for themselves – this is a tiny dog with a ginormous presence!
But it isn’t just about Gizmo’s magnetic personality and endearing appearance, it’s about making a positive difference to all he meets. Gizmo is a healer first of all, and he started out by repairing Adams who was steeped in grief. This pup brought change into Adams’ life and, together, they have become a powerhouse team. This little dog keenly in tune with the emotions and feelings in people. He brings his comfort, his presence. People cannot help but react positively to him. Adams says that Gizmo senses when people have a rough time, cuddles in their laps or lies beside them, and seems to tell them:
Listen. I see you are hurting, and I will help you, ok? Cuz we’re frens.
Adams always introduced little Gizmo as a public personality and soon he became that personality. He is now a certified therapy dog with Paws For Friendship, Inc. [check out Gizmo’s own page titled Gizmo’s Corner]. He began visiting people at an assisted living facility and his visits now include everywhere including hospitals, schools, veteran homes, nursing homes – he participates in mentoring programs and loves to meet people. He made a special trip to Wisconsin where he was invited to deliver Christmas cookies to veterans by a mentoring program for teenage girls.
Gizmo is also a frequent visitor at the Hartford Public Library and other branches where he is a Paws to Read certified reading assistance dog. Since Adams is a special education teacher, she enjoys watching Gizmo with young readers as they gain reading confidence.
After Adams started her Master’s in Human Service/Counseling – Crisis Response and Trauma, Gizmo became certified as the first known Community Emergency Response Team therapy dog in Connecticut. He trained right along with Adams and is now able to visit storm shelters and comfort families during grave search and rescue situations. Just a short time ago, Gizmo “passed his field evaluation for an amazing group called K9 First Responders [K9FR], a Critical Incident Mental Health Support organization. The goal is to jump-start the process of restoring a person’s emotional and cognitive equilibrium through the animal/human bond.”
When Adams was asked about the inspiration often expressed on Gizmo’s Facebook page, Adams says,
The inspiration is simply what he has taught me through his encounters with people in need, including myself. All of his posts about forgiveness, hope, faith, love, kindness, living each day to the fullest, etc. came from his heart and transformed my life, and hopefully maybe the lives of others.
Gizmo and Adams are extremely busy making visits and continuing to bring comfort and love. They help out and support causes, charities, organizations and groups that benefit so many people in the state.
And Gizmo hopes you will help his Fundraiser – the shirts. Please buy one or two to help out. Use this link to order a limited edition Gizmo kindness Tee.
