We thought men were from Mars and women were from Venus. Yet a woman figure hanging out on Mars? Some are struggling to explain a recently released image from NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover that appears to show a humanoid-like figure, evidently walking in the Red Planet’s dust. When zoomed, it even appears that our female figure has a bit of cleavage to show off. Different planet, same results: Dudes in cars looking at girls.
Writes Fox News on Aug. 10: “The truth is out there … maybe. A mysterious woman-like shape in a picture taken by NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover is creating buzz on social media.”
Fox also quoted Mashable, which took a more circumspect position on our spacegal: “Perhaps it’s a cloaked ghost Martian woman, perhaps it’s a statue left over from a once great society, perhaps it’s a piece of dirt.”
UFO Sightings Daily, the website that brings attention to all of these Where’s Waldo-like images, said the figure appears to be “a woman partly cloaked.” A tiny woman at that. The poster of the image said she appears to be only 8 to 10 cm tall, and staring up at the Curiosity rover.
“Yes, one such species is known to exist that small,” writes Scott Waring of UFO Sightings. “Remember the Apollo 20 mission, not the fake TV show, but the real mission? Well William Rutledge (astronaut) said inside the cigar ship in Deporte Crater (moon) he saw glass tubes on the walls with tiny human-like skeletons in them about 4-6 cm long. This looks real. And it should concern every country in the world.”
Of course, UFO and alien truthers who meticulously scrutinize the public footage and thumbnails made available from NASA’s Curiosity Rover have “discovered” and categorized all sorts of things on Mars. Evidently, our Solar System’s second smallest planet is revealing some immense finds in the field of extraterrestrial life.
Then again, one can simply look up at a cumulonimbus cloud and realize all sorts of objects. We see what we want to see. Theorists though oftentimes find ways to force the science to fit in with the fantastic, and no amount of rationale can disprove what an individual has already firmly entrenched in their mind. To wit:
The woman seems to have breasts…indicated by the shadow on its chest. We also see two arms that are lighter in color and what looks like a head with long hair. It’s hard to tell if this is a living being, or a statue of a being from long ago. However, a statue that small would be eroded and destroyed easily, so it has a higher chance of being a living being. – UFO Sightings Daily
If you care to track the reports, the car-sized Mars rover, sitting on the dusty red planet since 2012, has photographed and returned the following “confirmations” of humanoid / life: A thighbone, a traffic light, a number of alien toys, skulls, a doughnut rock (which one person is suing over by the way), a rocket launcher aimed at Earth, lizards, robots, a hand and a severed finger, Bigfoot, statues… on and on.
FirstPost.com summarized some of the Twitter debate (and jokes) that this woman figure has elicited thus far. “I’d honestly be disappointed if the first sign of alien life was a ghost woman in an old fashioned dress on Mars. That’s proper boring,” said Lee Sparkes.
“To be fair, there are no limits to how far I’d go for a bar of chocolate,” tweeted Heather Hill. Twitter user @Mrlarus71 has our favorite, showing that even in Mars, social male / female relationships and conversations are the same. “Houston, we have a problem. What? Nothing. What’s the problem? Never mind. Please tell us. I’m fine, says the first woman on Mars.”
Do you see a woman on Mars?
