Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan are having a baby, according to International Business Times on Friday. Mark shared the good news on his Facebook page. Not only did he announce that he and Priscilla are expecting their first child, but he announced that it will be a girl. Mark was quite personal in his post about starting a family.
Mark, 31, posted a picture of him, Priscilla and their dog Beast. Priscilla is seen showing off her baby bump. The couple has been married since 2012. They have been trying to have a baby for the last two years, but they have experienced three miscarriages. Mark shared that the pregnancy is now far enough along that the risk of loss is very low, and they are very hopeful. Zuckerberg says the baby girl can be seen in the ultrasound giving a thumbs-up “like” with her hand, so he is already convinced she takes after him.
Zuckerberg’s announcement about the baby is just one of the good things that happened with Zuckerberg this week. On Wednesday, Facebook released its second quarter earnings, which showed the company is still growing strong with its advertising business, and on Thursday, Zuckerberg announced Aquila, Facebook’s enormous laser-beaming and Internet-delivering drone aircraft.
Pricilla is a doctor and educator, and Mark does a lot of work with Facebook and philanthropy. Now the young couple will focus on making the world a better place for their child and the next generation.
Mark’s personal wealth, as of July 2015, is estimated to be $38.6 billion. Zuckerberg receives a one-dollar salary as CEO of Facebook because he said he has made enough money. The Chronicle of Philanthropy reported on Feb. 10, 2014 that Zuckerberg’s donation was the largest charitable gift on the public record in 2013. At the time, the CEO of Facebook and his wife were at the top of the magazine’s annual list of 50 most generous Americans after having donated roughly 1 billion dollars to charity.
