The time has come to unleash our inner potential. “Try to be like the turtle, at ease in your own shell.” – Bill Copeland, poet
If your little one is showing signs of scientific curiosity, The Gardens Mall, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, will be catering to that curiosity on Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as the mall welcomes Palm Beach county’s top environmentalists. The Gardens Mall is proud to present the Fourth Annual Loggerhead Marinelife Day, along with Shop and Share, keeping the interests of the entire family in mind. The makeshift marine lab will be located in the Grand Court.
Marinelife Day is being championed by Loggerhead Marinelife Center, a very unique cultural facility headquartered in northern Palm Beach County. Their main mission revolves around the ocean and sea turtle conservation. The center’s beachside campus is home to one of the most advanced sea turtle hospitals and research labs in all of the world.
This free and interactive event will put Loggerhead Marinelife Center directly in the spotlight on Saturday, August 22nd, while giving children the exceptional opportunity to learn all about the sea turtle and gain valuable knowledge on the topic of ocean conservation. Featured throughout the day, kids will be given a chance to participate in conversations with Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) scientists, the center’s resident mascot, Fletch, will be paying the kids a visit, there will be family-friendly games and activities, and chances to win exciting prizes. Turtle-loving tots and their families and friends will be able to design their own ocean reef, listen to sea turtle stories, craft seashell necklaces, and adopt their very own sea turtle.
Loggerhead Marinelife Center is also giving children the opportunity to be a “Vet for a Day.” Parents can nominate their child on the Marinelife Center’s Facebook page, an initiative already underway since August 9, 2015. The contest is open to children from ages 5 to 10. The lucky candidates will meet with an LMC rehabilitation staff member and learn how sea turtle patients are treated. A special bonus for the little vets will be to take home their very own plush sea turtle patient and give the turtle all the care and compassion necessary to nurse them back to health. Additionally, The Gardens Mall, Lilly Pulitzer, J.McLaughlin, and Brio Tuscan Grille will host Shop and Share events during the entire day of August 22nd, donating a percentage of the day’s total sales from logged shopping receipts back to Loggerhead Marinelife Center. Guests can turn in their receipts at the Information Desk to help support this crucial mission which the center devotes itself to.
The mall is conveniently located right off I-95 PGA Boulevard East exit, and about one mile east of the exit on PGA Boulevard. There is no finer way to spend a Saturday than shopping, sharing and taking part in the efforts to spread awareness on the importance of ocean conservation for the sea turtle species to young and old marine lovers alike.
