Marie Holmes is facing charges for possessing marijuana and this is just one of a few things that have gone wrong for the woman who is a new millionaire thanks to a winning lottery ticket. Holmes was one of three winners of the $188 million Powerball Lottery back in February and she had great plans to make a better life for her four children, all under the age of 10.
The single mother with her four kids was living in a trailer that was overcrowded with roommates when she won the lottery jackpot. She had every intention of getting her kids a real home, but things didn’t go as this North Carolina mother had planned apparently.
Holmes, 26, never purchased a home for her and the kids and they are all still living in the same trailer with the same roommates. One of the roommates she bailed out of jail using $3 million of her winnings. Now the roommate, Lamar Andre McDow is back in jail on a $6 million bail and it is not known if she will once again drop millions on this person, reports The Spread It on July 24.
After living such a hard life, as she described during various interviews once winning all that dough, you would think she would take the winnings and change things around, but it appears she has stayed in the same situation for some reason. Back when she first won all those millions, the humble appearing Holmes said:
“Winning still ‘doesn’t feel real. It’s not going to change the person that I am, but it’s going to change our situation. It’s going to be very fortunate. I am humbled and grateful for the opportunities this has created for my family.”
Her arrest for marijuana stems from her roommate, 31-year-old McDow, who was arrested on two heroin-related charges last fall and was held on $3 million bond, until Holmes won all that money and bailed him out. McDow violated the terms of his pre-trail release, which sent the cops to the trailer. While there to arrest McDow, the smell of marijuana was detected by the cops, according to the Canada Journal.
A search warrant for the trailer was obtained and marijuana along with drug paraphernalia and a .45-caliber pistol was uncovered. McDow was hit with the charge of firearm possession by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana. He is back in jail with a $6 million bail and some believe Holmes will once again bail him out.
This mother of four, along with the other roommates in this trailer, were charged with possession of marijuana. It doesn’t look like the millions she got in the lottery windfall has bettered her life at all.
