Aim for easy and eerie fun for trick or treating.
With the exception of any who may have been absent for a spell, virtually everyone has heard of Harry Potter, the fictional teen wizard of J. K. Rowling’s best-selling fantasy book series and the popular movie series. (British actor Daniel Radcliffe played Harry Potter in the movie series.)
Harry Potter, along with his Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry classmates and friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, are perennially popular subjects for Halloween trick or treat costumes. Halloween holiday shops and online costume retailers offer official Harry Potter character costumes for trick or treaters. Ready-made Harry Potter character Halloween outfits can be pricey. Accessories (such as lanterns, brooms, magic wands, mysterious animals, and other props) may add to the cost of the Harry Potter character Halloween costume.
Of course, clever and creative trick or treaters may whip up their own Harry Potter character costumes for Halloween fun.
Here’s how to dress up as Harry Potter for Halloween.
The do-it-yourself Harry Potter character Halloween costume is quite simple to create. The easiest method begins with a basic white button-down dress shirt, a classic red striped necktie, a pair of dark slacks and dark dress shoes. Or the wearer might choose more recent all-dark buttoned-down fashion ensemble, as shown in the photo. Black sneakers might be substituted for the dress shoes, especially for trick or treating at night.
A dark solid hooded bathrobe or choir robe completes the Harry Potter character look, particularly with the addition of the red and gold Gryffindor academic emblem, with its lion insignia, which may be found online. The Gryffindor emblem may be purchased from Harry Potter merchandisers or simply printed with a computer and affixed to the left-breast side of the hooded robe. Where can a trick or treater find a suitable solid-colored hooded bathrobe? If a mother or father or other family member does not already own such a garment, a simple bathrobe or choir robe might be found in a local thrift store. A little hunting might lead to such a find. Presto! There it is.
Minimal accessories are required for the Harry Potter character costume. A trick or treater who chooses to dress up as Harry Potter himself needs a pair of round black-framed eyeglasses, which may be obtained from Halloween holiday shops, online costume merchants, party supply vendors, or maybe even many dollar or discount stores.
For optimum Halloween fun, a group of friends might choose to costume themselves as Harry Potter and his Hogwart friends, wearing matching hooded robes for trick or treating in their neighborhoods.
