EJ Johnson, star of the “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills,” is a “new person” after getting gastric sleeve weight loss surgery. EJ, the son of NBA legend Magic Johnson, said his diet and life has completely changed since his August 2014 weight loss surgery.
“The surgery was definitely the best thing that ever happened to me,” EJ said on “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills.” “I never thought that I’d look this good, and that is the God’s honest truth.”
Johnson decided to get weight loss surgery after being unable to lose weight through diet and exercise. “Nothing was working, and I wanted to make a more permanent decision to get back on track,” said EJ.
In gastric sleeve surgery, about 80 percent of the stomach is removed to create a small sleeve-shaped stomach, about the size of a banana. As a result, you get full after three or four bites of food and can no longer eat huge portions.
The 6-foot-2 Johnson didn’t reveal how much he weighs, but said he has lost 180 pounds since his bariatric surgery. EJ, who’s openly gay, said men react to him differently after his weight loss.
“The attention I get from men now is completely different than before,” said EJ. “I feel like I definitely don’t have to work as hard.”
Johnson said he’s looking forward to dating now that he looks better and is more confident. “Everybody wants to be wanted,” said EJ. “I’m ready to let someone in.
“And instead of a casual hookup I think maybe a ‘friends with benefits’ [scenario] would be nice. You know, a guy to have fun with and some trips with — and have incredible sex with. That would be good!”
EJ: Weight Loss Surgery Is Not the ‘Easy Way Out’
Johnson, who has struggled with weight his entire life, said getting weight loss surgery was not the easy way out. “A lot of people think it’s the easy way out, but it’s not,” Johnson told the “Wendy Williams Show.” “It’s a step in the right direction, just a big push.”
Johnson said the gastric sleeve surgery jump-started his weight loss, but he still diets and exercises to stay fit. EJ said he follows a low-carb, low-sugar, low-fat diet and works out regularly.
Johnson echoed the sentiments of “MasterChef” star Graham Elliot, who lost 150 pounds with gastric sleeve surgery, Celebrity Health & Fitness reported.
“People thought, ‘It’s the easy way out,’ but the easy way out is to not do anything and continue laying on the couch and getting a bunch of burgers,” said Chef Elliot.
EJ said his dad, Magic Johnson, has been extremely supportive of his surgery and his weight loss. “He supports me in everything that I do,” said EJ. “He’s been one of my biggest cheerleaders.”
EJ, who’s openly gay and a fashion diva, said the best thing about his weight loss is getting to show off his body in sexy outfits. “I’m really loving showing skin right now,” said Johnson. “I’m all about skin. I’m all about things that are meshy, like sexy jumpsuits.”
EJ, a recent NYU graduate with a degree in fashion, revealed his decision to get gastric sleeve surgery on the season two finale of the “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills.” Johnson’s weight loss will be chronicled on season three of “RKOBH,” which is currently airing.
