All the way from Conway, Arkansas, fashion designer, Shonda Ali-Shamaa, set out to take on New York Fashion Week by storm on September 12th during the Fashion Gallery showcase at the Manhattan Affinia Hotel. Her line, Love R.O.C.S., aptly named after the love for her family and depicting each family members’ first initial in the term “R.O.C.S.,” was packed into travel cases and garment bags destined for New York City. After tirelessly working on her latest Spring 2016 collection entitled Blue Monday, arriving in New York City for the first time was thrilling and the experience just kept getting better.
“Showing at New York Fashion Week was exciting. The energy of the city, the look and feel of the runway, the people and their reaction to my work was exhilarating. I look forward to returning to show my Fall/Winter 2016 collection.”
The Love R.O.C.S. Blue Monday collection was inspired by every woman. From the time women wake up in the morning to the time they are ready to lounge on the patio in the evening with a glass of wine, Love R.O.C.S. wants to have options for women throughout her day. Pieces are created to mix and match within any given wardrobe, so that if you are at the office during the day, an easy transition can be made to take your look into after five cocktails or events. With dreamy blues, flowing skirts, the Love R.O.C.S. signature pockets and print fabrics to die for, the runways lit up when this Arkansas native’s garments took center stage.
To give a little background on Shonda Ali-Shamaa, she began her studies at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in Fashion Merchandising, then eventually changed her major to Accounting. She graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1995 with a B.S. in Accounting. She continues to enjoy a career in system engineering, but returned to her dream of becoming a fashion designer in 2012 by enrolling in the Jamileh Kamran School of Fashion Design (later renamed the Arkansas School of Fashion). After graduation, she hit the fashion show circuit and set up her fashion design business, which remains a custom order business currently. Her goals are to expand to retail outlets, so watch out for Love R.O.C.S. to strike a deal with a major chain very soon…especially after the success of her New York Fashion Week show.
When asked what we might expect from her next collection, Shonda leaves us with this, “Sultry lines with erotic movement.” Ooh la la, what ever could she mean? Fans will just have to wait and see, but until then you can keep up with the Love R.O.C.S. label on the Facebook page.
