Hearing local musicians play is something everyone should get out there and do. One of our local venues that supports music and arts in Connecticut is looking for support themselves.
The Space (since 2003) exists to build a safe, positive community for people of all ages through music and the arts. Physically, they are a listening room venue located in an unlikely industrial park in a sleepy suburb of New Haven, Connecticut. The venue definitely has that whole mystery thing going for them. They may be on the smaller size with only a capacity of about 150 people but they house a whole lot of love and a whole lot of decorations. You can spend a few months mentally cataloging all the weird random things hanging from the walls and ceilings, with a large stage that is the focal point of the room. When you visit The Space make sure to see The Attic, a Vintage Boutique and the 80s arcade upstairs. A Cafe that serves awesome food and there is an expansive outdoor patio area that has comfortable seating.
The Space is basically halfway between an underground arts collective and a sticky floor rock venue. There’s carpet, a checkered floor and a staff made of awesome people. There are velvet couches crazy lamps and over 50 different flavors of tea. There’s also rock and roll, folk, acoustic orchestras, independent film, SKA, experimental, indie shows, and more happening on the stage. The Space has hosted hundreds and hundreds of national, regional and local bands since they opened in early 2003. A true venue run by musicians for musicians.
Save The Space !
Connecticut’s long standing All ages Music and Arts Venue is seeking financial help from the Music & Arts Community. They are looking for help to keep the doors open and make the necessary upgrades to improve both the technical and visual components that make up The Space.
The Space which opened in 2003 has provided the creative platform & “safe haven” for many of our young people in the community. They are asking for your help to keep the doors open.
If The Space has been even a small part of your life over the last decade please reach into your pocket and make a donation of any size to help keep a community venue afloat.
A personal note from Steve Rodgers (Founder / Director for The Space)
Asking for help is a difficult thing for me to do and it is with a humble heart and great respect for this music scene that I am personally reaching out for help. I have been and remain devoted to providing a “safe haven” for people of all ages in our community. I have personally invested 80+ work hours a week and My family and I have made difficult sacrifices in order to keep the doors open at The Space. My Family and I are not in the financial position to self fund The Space and this is why we are seeking community help to help us keep the doors open. My Team and I are currently in the process of developing a much more sustainable business model for The Space so that going forward we can continue to bring great music to the Hamden / New Haven as well as continuing to provide a safe haven for the arts for people of all ages.
