Certain products sure do get a lot of love in the beauty community. Sometimes, it’s overhype and oversaturation but sometmes, these things are genuinely worth a try! Today I discuss two well-loved brands, their star lip products, and which shades to use for Summer.
Not long ago, Anastasia Beverly Hills released a large line of liquid lipsticks, ranging from the palest milky shade to a deep, vampy purple. They followed up with a set of highly pigmented lip glosses. These are outright must-haves, especially for fellow color lovers. They last an incredible while on the lips while staying true to their glossy texture. The color selection is vast, might I add, so there’s definitely something for everyone (34 shades total!) I love the full coverage it provides with just one application. I’m a gal not afraid of bold lips, especially for this season — my favorite summer picks are Neon Carnival, a perfect coral, and Neon Orange, which, unlike the name suggests, is actually more of a muted tangerine color. I like the formula of these glosses more than those from MAC’s range — though Anastasia’s are thicker in consistency than most other brands, they are far less goopy and don’t collect product in the corners of my mouth (ew) the way MAC’s do.
To further expand, I’ve also used the Anastasia glosses on top of the liquid lipstick — I topped Candy Coral Gloss over Retro Coral Liquid, to be precise. The result was a highly saturated, intense orangey lip that wore well throughout the day, leaving a staining effect during the later hours. It didn’t feel uncomfortably heavy, so layering the 2 products is something I intend to keep doing. Bonus tip: Another gorgeous liquid lipstick color, Craft, is perfect for a nighttime summer outing. It’s new to the collection and pairs amazingly with tanned skin. Craft is a complicated color, mixing berry tones with purple and even some brick red. That’s what makes it so unique and appropriate for a glam look.
Keeping in tune with the lip theme, I can personally attest to the quality of Gerard Cosmetics, particularly a few of their nude lip products. For those who favor a more toned-down lip, Gerard’s aptly-named Nude teams up with any eye makeup sans the whole “dead” look, thanks to its pretty peach undertone. Rodeo Drive is a nice choice for medium to tan skin — it’s your perfect, neutral pink with a bit of mauve. 1995 is another popular choice since the mauvey-brown lip came back in style, and that’s exactly what this color is. On my light skin, it pulls more brown than anything, but coupled with the right lip liner (I like MAC’s “Oak” with this), 1995 just . . . works.
Gerard’s Butter Cream Lip Gloss is a pink-based nude and looks pretty on its own, but even better on top of aforementioned Nude lipstick. It takes the look from peachy to neutral, which will act in favor of fair-complected ladies. While I obviously like to combine lipsticks and glosses for a customizable look, I’m so impressed with how Candy Kiss alone compliments my skintone. It’s a highly pigmented, peachy nude with a slight bit of cool pink. It fuses together all the tones we love in a nude lip to make the most universally flattering color.
