Bobbi Kristina’s aunt Leolah Brown has issued a statement on her Facebook account because she feels the need to explain her feud with Pat Houston, Bobbi Kristina’s other aunt. According to Leolah, a guardianship issue is at the root of the feud between the two women, which also appears to be a misguided money grab for Bobbi Kristina’s estate. According to Realty Today.com on Aug. 19, Leolah Brown claims that she had legal guardianship over Bobbi Kristina. She insists that the Houston family and the Brown family are both aware that she was personally assigned guardianship of Bobbi Kristina by Whitney Houston before her death.
Leolah has challenged Pat Houston’s guardianship of their niece, stating that Pat was present when the legal documents were signed. According to NewsEveryDay.com, on Aug. 20, Leolah made the following declaration on her Facebook account regarding Pat Houston, Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law, whom she insists on referring to as “Pat Garland.”
“Pat Garland has NEVER been a “guardian” over my niece Bobbi Kristina Brown. That was THE BIGGEST LIE TOLD by her and whomever supported that lie. She was “PUT” over the estate by Cissy.
Leolah goes on to say:
“If you find Pat’s name anywhere on any documents regarding Bobbi Kristina’s guardian or Whitney Houston, trust and know that they have been manipulated!
What’s interesting about Leolah’s declarations is that in May of this year a judge appointed Pat Houston as Bobbi Kristina’s co-guardian, along with her father, Bobby Brown. This was widely publicized and occurred at the same time the court appointed Bedelia C. Hargrove as Bobbi Kristina’s conservator. As such, Hargrove is responsible for all financial matters related to Bobbi Kristina’s estate. This leads one to wonder if Leolah Brown bothers to read the news.
Leolah has not produced any proof to support her guardianship claim. But even if she did it would be irrelevant since guardianships terminate upon death, and Bobbi Kristina is dead. Guardianships also terminate when the person becomes “of age” which in most states is 18. So any alleged “guardianship” that Whitney Houston might have assigned to Leolah Brown was no longer in effect since Bobbi Kristina was 19 when her mother died.
So what exactly is Leolah Brown’s purpose in disputing a guardianship which is no longer in effect, if it ever existed at all? She seems to be under the impression that as Bobbi Kristina’s guardian she would be entitled to financial compensation of some kind. Does she think guardianship would give her access to Bobbi Kristina’s multi-million dollar inheritance? Leolah also seems to have an issue with Pat Houston being co-executor of Whitney Houston’s estate. Someone should enlighten Leolah on what guardians, executors, and conservators do, because apparently she doesn’t know.
Leolah also stated in her Facebook post that the guardianship issue is the reason Pat Houston hates her. If Pat does, in fact, hate Leolah she certainly has not indicated it in any way. Pat Houston has consistently ignored all of Leolah Brown’s taunts, insults, and attempts to bait her. To her credit, Pat has carried on as if Leolah doesn’t exist. This one-sided feud shows just how low Leolah is in Pat’s regard. She has paid no more attention to Leolah’s posturing than she would to a speck of dust on her shoe. Yet Leolah continues to verbally attack Pat and make a spectacle of herself.
The sad part is that there may be kernels of truth hidden among some of the things Leolah says. At times, buried in all that rhetoric, she has raised some very valid points. For example, it was Leolah who recently called attention to the request Pat Houston made on Bobbi Kristina’s funeral invitations for donations to be sent to the Marion P. Foundation which Pat herself founded, and personally runs. Unfortunately, most people are turned off by the way Leolah comes across. If Leolah Brown wants people to take her seriously, she needs to shut up, sit down, and stop making a spectacle of herself.
