San Diego fitness trainer Dawn Celapino and her dog Jack’s journey across the USA in her RV to promote fitness and dog friendly activities is now one month complete and they have made it all the way to the East Coast. She’s added three more states to her list, spent lots of time on her SUP, and is about to teach her fourth fitness class in Rome, NY today.
With nearly two weeks before their next class, they left Oklahoma and headed east. Most of their stops are not planned or reserved- Celapino looks for locations which are lush and have a body of water on a map within a 6 hour drive. She prefers state parks over typical RV parks for their trails and water access and because they typically cost less.
Here are some of the highlights from their next stops on their cross country journey.
Lake Catherine State Park, Arkansas
They explored the Dam Mountain Trail, a 4.5 mile trail in the middle of lush forest with a waterfall. Their second hike was on the Falls Branch Trail.
As much as it’s been Celapino’s mission on this trip to “inspire dogs and their people,” it was here where she met a fellow pet friendly RV traveler, Shelley who told Celapino her own inspiring tale travel with her own dogs and rescue dogs. You can read the story here on The Leash Your Fitness blog.
Douglas Dam, Tennessee – At this point, they had now logged 2536 miles and added three more states.
With an abudance of water, they spent most of their time swimming and using their SUP (stand up paddleboard.) She even introduced the use of SUP to new people she met in the campground. It was so fun watching their excitement at trying something new and loving it,” said Celapino. “We hope that we have inspired them to get an inflatable SUP, they are so easy to travel with.”
Hungry Mother State Park- Marion, VA where they enjoyed friendly camp hosts, small town charm, and lots of running and hiking trails. This campground features a restaurant, Wifi, laundry, playground, swim area, cabins and 3 separate camping areas. They were able to enjoy the extensive miles of running and hiking trails and took advantage of the lake to do more stand up paddleboarding.
After that, Jack’s Journey USA took off for Annapolis and Pennsylvania to visit friends and family and teach two more fitness classes.
After the class today in New York, the next two classes take place May 30th in Boston and May 31st in Camden, Maine.
