A lot has been happening on the visual discovery tool Pinterest. The social media destination has an active user base of 20 million. Unlike other social networking services female users outnumber male counterparts 83 percent to 17 percent. Popular categories are decor, crafts, cooking and health.
For the microblogging website ,Twitter, 5,700 tweets are shared every second. In addition, it has 241 million active users. Still growth has been slow, but they did join Facebook when it offered an initial public offer in late 2013.
Facebook is today´s largest social network since it boasts over 1 billion users worldwide. Furthermore, users share one million links every 20 minutes. The company has diversified over time become a huge advertising platform and put extra emphasis into branching out in the mobile space. They have also worked on integrating their platform with various news organizations to offer a better browsing experience.
On the other hand, Instagram has proven more than useful to its parent company Facebook. It currently has 200 million active users and the most followed brand is National Geographic.
Google Plus has 540 million active users and the most active users are the ages 25 to 35 years old. The platform has not taken off to challenge current contenders. Google has not seeing much return on investment (ROI) as far as social media is concerned.
LinkedIn continues to tailor to specific business industries and niche sectors. Corporate brands have found a space and place for using this social channel. It is a great resource for professional networking and 79 percent of users are 35 or older. It has 300 million users.
