Test results are in on Lamar Odom and it came as no surprise to many that he tested positive for cocaine in his system, according to TMZ, Oct. 26, 2015. Sheriff Sharon Wehrly told TMZ that if he had drugs in his blood system, he might face charges. However, it’s doubtful if Lamar has anything to fear because for a first-time offender caught in the state of Nevada, the worst sentence is completing the Drug Ed course and all charges will be dropped. Of course, if things go bad, cocaine possession in Nevada carries a 1 to 4-year sentence.
Drug Ed course or jail is the least of Lamar’s problems or worries because when he overdosed on the drugs, they did extensive damage to his body and Lamar as people know him, may never fully recover and be like he was before. Because his kidneys have shut down, chances are he may need a kidney transplant. However, his body is not strong enough even to consider a kidney transplant at this time, so he will continue to be on dialysis, which takes about 6 hours every day. Jim Harrick told USA Today that Lama’s rehabilitation period could take at least six months and possibly a lot longer. What was thought to be a miracle recovery certainly brought along major health problems. A source told People, “It’s two steps forward, then a step back, but it does feel like some progress is being made, little by little. There’s still a black cloud, like, ‘Okay, what’s next?’ The pneumonia was a huge setback, and now there’s worry about permanent scarring of the lungs.”
Lamar was found unresponsive in a Nevada brothel, the Love Ranch and it was suspected then that he overdosed on cocaine and herbal Viagra. The EMTs rushed him to the nearest hospital to stabilize his condition, before they transferred him to the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Lamar remained in a coma and on life support for four days before he was able to breathe on his own and wake up to say “Hey Baby” to Khloe Kardashian, and give her the thumbs up sign. He apologized to Khloe and promised never to do drugs again. In return, Khloe agreed to stay married to him and together they signed papers asking for their divorce to be dismissed.
According to a source, “He can carry out simple directions, but it takes some time for him to do it. But that’s way better than he was last week, so the family is taking the good news as they get it. He has wrecked his body, so it’ll take time to figure out how well he can come back. But everyone knows that he’ll never be the same as he was before this happened. There will always be lasting effects, and doctors are just trying to minimize them.”
