English midfielder Steven Gerrard of the LA Galaxy was happy that he ended his scoring drought this past Sunday. However, he made sure that the Galaxy needs to maintain as a team instead of concentrating on individuality in order to end up in first place in the MLS.
Gerrard scored the third goal for the Galaxy on Sunday’s game against FC Dallas, as the Angeleno team ended up winning 3-2. Gerrard’s goal was his second and had not scored since his debut back in July 18.
Gerrard stressed that the game was not about him, it was about the team. He made it clear that it does not matter who did what and who scored. Instead, it is about getting the victory or the three points in order to stay on top of the league.
After Sunday’s victory, the LA Galaxy was able to establish first place in the MLS Western Conference and also establish the best record in the league. That puts the Angeleno team for the Supporters’ Shield award—the award given to the team with the best record at the end of the season.
Steven Gerrard also added that he has been playing with confidence all along despite only scoring two goals in two-and-a-half months of playing time. Still, his presence in the midfield has made a huge difference for the Galaxy, as the Angeleno team has become a dominant force once again.
Additionally on Sunday, the team had scored with all three designated players—Robbie Keane, Giovani Dos Santos, and Gerrard. That was a first for the Angeleno team, and it was also a nice boost since the team had not scored in the last three MLS games.
In the end, Steven Gerrard was just happy to see the LA Galaxy win and not make the show all about him. He ended by stating that the team has a responsibility and will try to do everything to get the Supporters’ Shield by the end of the season.
