Square Enix made a major announcement during todays D23 expo in California regarding the long awaited third installment to ‘Kingdom Hearts’, ‘Kingdom Hearts III’.
In 2013, Square Enix announced the definite release of ‘Kingdom Hearts III’ at E3 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but no further information was released until today, August 16, 2015.
The developer confirmed that ‘Kingdom Hearts III’ will take place in the world Disney’s 3rd biggest animated title, ‘Big Hero 6’. A report from Gamespot mentions that the main villain in the upcoming title will “use the powers of darkness to manipulate the Baymax body…” Gamespot also noted that the events for ‘Kingdom Hearts III’ will take place after the events in the ‘Big Hero 6’ film.
Taking a quick look back at the Oscar winning film, the main character, Hiro Hamada, forms a bond with Baymax after the death of his brother Tadashi.
As the movie progresses Hiro, Baymax, and a group of friends become their version of super heroes using technology. They go on a journey to find out who stole Hiro’s invention and in turn they find out who caused the death of Tadashi.
In a climatic end to the story, a teleportation portal threatens the Big Hero 6 world and Baymax and Hiro end up inside the portal. In an effort to save Hiro, Baymax sacrifices himself.
The villain in ‘Kingdom Hearts III’, referred to as the darkness earlier in this article, will take advantage of the Baymax trapped in the portal.
‘Kingdom Hearts III’ will be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Amazon.com has the release date of December 31, 2015 with pre-order available. However, a tweet from Square Enix on January 7, 2015 stated that there has been no release date announced for the video game.
The upcoming release will mark the first game for this saga since 2005. Square Enix is also known for creating the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest franchises.
In other news, Sony is holding a voting poll called ‘Vote To Play’ on playstation.com. It allows gamers to vote on three game titles, one of which will be available free during the September 2015 PlayStation.
Voting began on August 13, 2015 and ends on August 24, 2015 at 8:30 am Pacific. The three choices include role-playing games ‘Zombie Vikings’, ‘Armello’, and ‘Grow Home’.
The game with the most votes will automatically be included in our September free game lineup, and PlayStation Plus members can get the two runners-up at a discount. We can’t wait to see what PlayStation Plus members decide for September in our first Vote to Play event. We’ll have more events in the future, so stay tuned.” – John Koller, PlayStation Blog
As for the remainder of August 2015, PlayStation Plus members can still download ‘Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris’ and ‘Limbo’ for PlayStation 4. They can pick up ‘God of War: Ascension’ for PlayStation 3. In addition, ‘CastleStorm’, ‘Sound Shapes’, as well as ‘Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones’ can be downloaded for their designated PlayStation systems.
