Kim Richards, star of the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” was drunk or high on drugs at her daughter’s recent wedding. Witnesses said Richards verbally assaulted daughter Brooke right after the wedding and cursed out the groom’s family.
Kim was allowed to temporarily leave rehab to attend her daughter’s wedding last weekend, but her drunken antics caused her sober coach to quit in frustration, TMZ reported May 26.
Richards was definitely under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to multiple sources, who called her a “mess.” Kim’s sober coach quit and left the wedding because she was acting crazy.
Richards was supposed to go back to rehab on May 25, but still has not returned. The past few months have been rough for Richards, who was arrested April 16 at the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills amid complaints about her drunken behavior.
Sources said Richards locked herself in a bathroom and refused to come out. Cops said Richards was uncooperative, reeked of alcohol and slurred her speech. Kim was taken to a local jail, where she kicked a police officer.
The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office has since charged Richards with public intoxication, resisting arrest and battery on a cop. If convicted, Kim faces two and a half years in jail.
Kim Took Pills and Smoked Pot
Shortly after her arrest, Richards’ children staged an intervention on the “Dr. Phil Show.” Richards has struggled with alcoholism for years, and went to rehab for substance back in 2011.
On the show, Kim’s son Chad revealed she frequently took pills and smoked marijuana during the past year, when she vehemently insisted she was completely sober. Kim entered rehab again shortly after the Dr. Phil intervention.
Richards had initially refused to go to rehab but changed her mind amid pressure from Bravo executives, who are requiring her to seek help and get regular drug testing or risk getting fired from the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” The reality show is a major chunk of Kim’s income, so it’s critical she does not violate the show’s sobriety clause.
This past season, Kim repeatedly clashed with co-stars Lisa Rinna, Eileen Davidson and her sister Kyle Richards after they questioned her sobriety. Kim had vehemently insisted she was completely sober — until her April 16 drunken arrest.
At the “RHOBH” reunion, Kyle broke down in tears after Kim suggested she was dis-inviting her from Brooke’s wedding. It appears the two sisters have since mended fences (at least for the wedding).
Kim Richards, who earns six figures from the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” previously said she loves the fan attention she gets from starring on the hit TV show. Ironically, Kim said being on “RHOBH” made her “feel important” because she’s a sobriety role model for other recovering addicts.
