Kim Davis is at it again, but this time the clerk is altering marriage licenses instead of refusing to grant these legal documents. This means Davis is once again in defiance of the court’s ruling. On Monday lawyers for two gay couples and two straight couples headed to court to ask a judge if these newly issued marriage licenses are valid since the clerk is now altering the licenses for marriage.
The lawyers asked the judge to order the Rowan County clerk to reissue the licenses. If she refuses the lawyers request that the office be put in receivership and then have someone else do it, according to MSN News on September 22. This comes after Davis, who was told not to interfere with the marriage licenses, did so anyway.
According to The Washington Post today, Davis “confiscated all the original forms, and provided a changed form which deletes all mentions of the County, fills in one of the blanks that would otherwise be the County with the Court’s styling, deletes her name, deletes all of the deputy clerk references, and in place of deputy clerk types in the name of Brian Mason, and has him initial rather than sign.”
It seems that her newest meddling with the marriage licenses have people headed back into court today. People are “alleging that altered marriage licenses issued from the office of the defiant clerk are humiliating and possibly invalid,” according to MSN.
One thing she did say during her first TV interview with Paula Faris, leads one to think that she somehow thinks that she is above it all. It is almost as if Davis fancies herself above the law of the people.
While complaining about all the name calling she’s endured, she tells Faris, “people are calling me names and things that I didn’t even say while I was in the world.” Since she’s back at work and not hiding from the cameras, what did she mean by this statement? What world is she not in anymore?
According to Deadline today, Davis tells Paula Faris, the “Good Morning America” weekend anchor, the things that people say that really hurt her to hear. She said this during her first TV interview.
As Davis struggles between the sobs to get out the words she says, “What does hurt me is when they tell me that my god does not love me or that my god is not happy with me or I am a hypocrite of a Christian.” If she doesn’t care what the law says then why would she care about what people have to say?
Davis is prepared to return to jail over her beliefs, which is what she said during her interview with Farris. This Kentucky clerk stopped issuing marriage licenses in June after the federal law made it legal for same-sex marriages. Since that day, she has taken up a lot of the court’s time and put many couples in anguish while trying to get a marriage license that is rightfully theirs to get!
Now that she’s got her 15 minutes of fame and becoming the hot interview of the week, she’s granted even more of a stage to perform on. Most people would just leave a job if they are unable to perform their duties.
For some reason, which could possibly be all the fame she’s received, this woman won’t step aside and let folks get on with their lives. This is a woman who has been married four times and has several children outside the institution of marriage. But she still feels like she’s the one to decide how others should lead their lives?
