Gathering together to listen to country music on a Thursday night is nothing new in the state of Georgia, and Kelsea Ballerini drew quite the crowd. October 22 was a special moment for Macon, Georgia’s Cox Capital Theater as they allowed one of the best new artists in country music to take the stage.
Colby Dee, a Georgia native opened up for the sassy blonde beauty. She stormed onto the stage belting out a Carrie Underwood favorite, ‘Good Girl.’ Her high-energy spirit got the crowd going as she kept the stage alive with her band and allowing the audience to participate. Dee did a great job at getting the crowd excited for the main attraction.
After Dee left the stage, the crowd couldn’t contain their excitement. Even though Ballerini has only had an album out for less than a year, she nominally kept the crowd excited before even taking the stage. But, the crowd didn’t have to wait long. The blonde cutie ran out onto the stage starting off her set with an original, ‘Looking At Stars’ and never looked back.
The country radio chart-topper and Taylor Swift-endorsee has the kind of magnetism that keeps even non-country fans listening as she continued on belting out an Underwood favorite, ‘Cowboy Casanova,’ taking the stage by storm. The way she interacted with the crowd making everyone in the room feel like her best friend made it apparent as to why producer, Forest Glen Whitehead recently called her ‘a country Beyonce.’ Those are some big shoes to fill, but if anyone can fill them, it would be Ballerini.
Armed with diva-in-training forces (a rhinestone mic and killer leather heels), Ballerini sang with evocative strength. Whether she was rocking out to ‘XO,’ ‘Sirens’ or serenading the crowd with ‘First Time,’ she displayed immense girl power. ‘Stilettos’ was the most effective song of the show, a chin-up anthem inspired by a quote on Pinterest. “I wrote this song because being a girl, sometimes you have to learn to be okay even when you’re not. So, tonight, I want to dedicate this song to every girl who isn’t okay,” the blonde spoke as she made direct eye contact with some girls in the crowd.
After playing a show with high-energy and relatable topics, Ballerini didn’t seem to want to stop. Her interaction with the crowd was something that you don’t see everyday. She made sure to be intentional with the crowd, making you feel like the only person in the room, thanking them countless times for coming out to watch her play some songs. “I have never played here before, but I want to let you know that I love every single one of you and I will never forget this night, and now, I’m going to close this show with a song that changed the course of my life. Sing along if you know it,’ she spoke as she entered a raucous performance of her chart-topping hit ‘Love Me Like You Mean It.’
Ballerini knows how to entertain and captivate a crowd and after watching her put on a wild, inspirational and fun show, she won’t be forgotten. Country is lucky to have true artistry come from a 22-year-old girl. It is sure that they won’t take it for granted.
