Carol Higgins didn’t think much when taking a survey for HSN months ago. The survey was about Keith Urban’s PLAYER guitar series. As a matter of fact, months went by and Carol forgot she took the survey all together. Sometimes it’s good to forget about things such as this because it can make winning so much sweeter. When Higgins filled out the survey, she was entered into a grand prize drawing to meet Urban himself.
Months went by and sure enough there was a message on her landline answering machine. “It was a representative from HSN telling me that I had won the grand prize. I was over the moon. I couldn’t remember why I had won or what I did to win, but it didn’t matter. I was thrilled.” Higgins discovered that she had won this past July, so there were months of preparation and anticipation between her and meeting the one person who has meant so much to her.
This past weekend, Keith stopped by HSN Studios in Florida to not only celebrate his 2nd anniversary with HSN, but to meet with Carol and play a little bit of guitar. “The whole thing was a dream come true. Before meeting him, I had my own dressing room where I had my makeup done. I would have loved to have the makeup artist come home with me just so I could look like that every day,” Carol resonates as she looks back on the experience. “But, meeting Keith was my favorite part, of course. I was able to watch him perform live, which was like a private concert for me. But more than that, he is just a great guy, and I am so happy that I got to spend some time with him.”
Carol also got to share a sentimental moment with Keith. “We talked about his new song ‘Break On Me.’ I told him how the words resonated with me as it was the one year anniversary of my dad’s passing. He took my hand right then and told me that Nic (Nicole Kidman) had lost her dad last year too.”
It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to be able to spend time with someone you have always admired, but to also play guitar with them is in a different playing field. This is exactly what Carol did. “We played ‘Little Bit of Everything,’ and I was shocked that I remembered all the chords. It was a good thing I didn’t know they were filming or else I know I would have messed up.”
After a once in a lifetime opportunity, we know that Carol is still on a high. Who could blame her? There are only a select few that can say they’ve played guitar with the guitar legend himself. Luckily, Carol can now cross this off her bucket list of memories that she will never forget. “I’m still on cloud 9 and I have no idea when I will come down from that.”
