Netflix is set to air a documentary about Rolling Stones musician Keith Richards in “Keith Richards: Under the Influence,” premiering on Fri., Sept. 18, 2015, according to a July 28 announcement emailed to press by Netflix. The original documentary is from Academy Award winning director Morgan Neville (“20 Feet from Stardom,” “Best of Enemies”).
The Netflix film debuts on the same day as Keith Richards’ new solo album “Crosseyed Heart,” which is available for pre-order.

The film is a portrait of Keith Richards, an influential performer, guitarist and songwriter, including music that has inspired him and his journey to become known as one of the architects of rock and roll. Richards, who is creating hi first solo album in 23 years, has been influenced by differing genres of music, including electric blues, southern soul and country honky-tonk. Morgan accesses rare archival materials and hours of intimate, reflective conversations with Keith Richards to create this look at the rock icon.
They visit the key people and places that have inspired and enchanted Keith, including Chicago, Nashville and New York. Chicago is the home of the blues, where Keith encountered Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Chess Records. In Nashville, he explores his love of country music. New York is where Keith collaborated with the likes of Waddy Wachtel and Steve Jordan and recorded his album
Keith’s long time friend Tom Waits gives a dose of inspiration along the way as viewers learn about one of the most iconic and least understood figures in music. Keith Richards is revealed as smart, funny, poignant and profound, according to the press statement.
“Keith Richards: Under the Influence” is produced by Neville, Justin Wilkes (What Happened, Miss Simone?, Under African Skies) and Jane Rose (Crossfire Hurricane, Shine A Light), the feature film is a beautifully documented portraiture film of Keith Richards that takes us on a journey to discover the genesis of his sound as a songwriter, guitarist and performer. Emmy award nominated cinematographer Igor Martinovic (What Happened, Miss Simone?, House of Cards, Man on Wire) shot the film and Joshua L.
