There are not many celebrities, less known women, who are not afraid to share their Christian beliefs concerning their faith on national television, but Kathie Lee Gifford did just that Monday August 17, 2015; on the fourth hour of the Today Show. She opened the show with a heartwarming tribute to her husband and friend of 29 years – Frank Gifford, who passed away the week before.
Eighty four year old Frank Gifford died suddenly on Sunday morning, August 9, 2015; of natural causes at his Greenwich Connecticut home. The famed sportscaster, father, husband, philanthropist, and former New York Giants player was one week away from his 85th birthday.
Kathy Lee has always made it plain that she is a Christian who is not afraid to make references concerning her belief in God, while on the air or in public. The eighteen minute tribute that she gave her audience about her husband was given with courage, love and respect. Since then the video has gone viral with thousands of condolences left on her Twitter and Facebook accounts, besides the well wishes that NBC has received.
Kathy Lee also knows what the Bible teaches about forgiveness and she has lived her beliefs over the years. According to ETonline the couple faced their biggest trial – a brief infidelity in 1997. After learning of her husband being unfaithful, Kathie Lee chose to stay with Frank. At the time, the couple’s two children — Cody, now 25, and Cassidy, 22 — were still very young and Kathie Lee couldn’t imagine uprooting their family structure.
“If I had run when Frank had his temporary insanity, which he was set up for let’s face it, then our children wouldn’t have their father,” Kathie Lee said. “A very dear friend told me when I was going through the hardest time about it, he said, ‘If you can’t forgive your husband, forgive your children’s father.’ Too many families break up over something that could be healed if they just stay there and trust God to do a healing in their life.” “People always say to me, ‘Do you have a statement?'” she said in 2000. “I say, ‘You know what? We are our statement.'”
Frank Gifford is survived by his wife Kathie Lee, and five grown children — daughter’s Cassidy and Victoria, as well as son’s Cody, Jeff and Kyle Gifford.
