There is constant chatter among artists about how to exhibit their work such that patrons can discover their talent. The answer begins with the artist producing superior work with which they are most satisfied. Artists need not be consumed by the business of art. The “business” should be a matter of routine. The focus should be on the work, and that comes with merit. Artists set the standards for their work
Karen Tarlton is a fine example of a successful artist. Four of her paintings were commissioned recently by a restaurant and that is “news”. New work is news too as are new exhibits and gallery affiliations. Even updates and additions to websites where art is exhibited and where it may be purchased is news.
Karen Tarlton shared her bio and art statement and a selection of work for review.
From her description and from reviewing a sample of her work, here is her main idea and five supporting points as this reviewer sees it. Some artists have affinity with a particular subject while others apply their unique style as in “she liked whatever she looked upon, and her looks went everywhere,” wrote Robert Browning in “My Last Duchess”. There is much right about being able to interpret everything through one’s unique perspective.
Karen Tarlton paintings are from emphatic composition of loose strokes and bold color, emoting lively response and engagement.
Five Supporting Points:
- Her paintings emit energy.
- They invite examination and exploration.
- They are intimate expressions of the artist’s interpretations.
- They are both textural and colorful.
- Her subjects and interests are broad: Architecture, Cityscapes, Animals, Portraits, Still lifes, Waterscapes and Landscapes.
She even gives angels a lift.
Contemporary Impressionist Painter, Karen Tarlton – oil paintings with a unique sense of color, texture and light. With loose strokes and bold use of color, she brings a unique perspective to the contemporary art world. Her paintings are a visual journey that allow the essence of her subject matter to come to life. She creates lively, engaging, colorful art, and her work is widely collected worldwide.
Born in 1965 in Riverside California. As a child, she moved frequently, living in many cities up and down the state until finally settling in beautiful Lake Tahoe as a teenager. As a child, her desire to draw and paint was very strong; she drew everything, and did multiple self-portraits because she was often the only model available. While still in high school in 1981, she met her husband. They both attended The University of California at Davis, where she took her very first real art classes. It was then that she knew without a doubt she wanted to paint as a career. When her husband joined the Air force to become an F-16 pilot after college, she took the opportunity to begin painting landscapes and thus began her professional career as an artist. In 24 years, they have moved 18 times and have lived all over the world. Traveling has greatly influenced her paintings and she continues to paint everyday. On three separate occasions, they were stationed in Washington, DC. Both times, I took the opportunity to continue her studies at The Corcoran School of Fine Arts. She has a very large worldwide following and sells in multiple galleries and her online store www.etsy.com/shop/Karensfineart
As of 2002, have been creating a new painting almost every day. My artwork brings birds, cows, horses, flowers, and even angels to life. Landscapes, cityscapes, and boat-filled harbors become illuminated by majestic, textured light. I strive to infuse my paintings with energy, intimacy and brilliant color. Sweeping color, texture and impressionism are the words that describe what I love to do. I am more concerned with creating a mood with rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. My travels all over the world as a military spouse have inspired me intensely.
My work is collected in galleries and private collections worldwide. . I am currently licensed with companies such as Uptown Art, All My Walls, Dianoche Designs, AFrame Audio, and others who sell images of my artwork on blankets, towels, rugs, or illuminated canvas. You may find my art reproduced by these companies on sites such as One King’s Lane, Rue La La and Amazon.”
