Kadaver Dolls hail straight from Venice, Florida, a Melodic/Progressive Metal band! Under the record label “Spread The Metal Records”, this band values friendship and metal all together to form a masterpiece that loves to play different genres of concerts and venues. They truly want to share the stage not just for music but to meet other like-minded fans and musicians as well.
Check out my Q&A I formed with the various members of Kadaver Dolls!
First of all, thank you very much for answering these questions!
1.) How/When did Kadaver Dolls form? And why?
Joseph – Formed in winter of 2009. Why? To be the best and rule the fucking known Universe.
2.) Where did the band come up with the name “Kadaver Dolls” and why?
Joseph – Under our Bio on the website says it best.
3.) Coming from the South Florida area, how different is it there than in Tampa?
Andrew – It’s a smaller town.
Mark – Very different I think half our population is over the age of 60 and there is not much for night life.
4.) What is your favorite venue to play in and why?
Andrew – State theatre, because it’s big and has an awesome sound system.
Mark – I’d have to say the state theatre because of its massive stage and giant PA system.
Schwartzwalder – That’s a tough question! I mean most all the venues we’ve played are awesome: Brass Mug, Crowbar, Orpheum, State Theatre. I’m going to say Crowbar though for me cause the way the room is set up, the acoustics are amazing, and my two favorite shows we played were there; our CD release show and Metal for the Military with GOATWHORE!
5.) Who would be your number one band to tour/collaborate with (if chosen to pick) and why?
Andrew – Slipknot, because they have a huge fan base and I would love to play in front of thousands of people.
Mark – My number one band to tour and collaborate with would be Slipknot.
Schwartzwalder – Cannibal Corpse because for one they are really awesome people and musicians, and two everywhere they go people love them they are still a “working class band”, and I respect that a lot.
6.) What type of Metal would Kadaver Dolls call themselves?
Andrew – I have no clue.
Mark – I honestly don’t know how to classify ourselves. We try not to pick a direction to write in; we are more about letting fate dictate what the song ultimately becomes.
Schwartzwalder – I like to say we are Brutal Heavy Metal. Not quite Death Metal because our music always follows a groove; but it gets real heavy and brutal at times.
7.) What are the primary songs that Kadaver Dolls like to write about? (IE, politics, religion, trauma, relationships, metal, etc)
Andrew – Politics, religion, whores, and drugs.
Mark – We write about a little bit of everything. From politics, religion, trauma, relationships, aliens, conspiracy theories, etc.
Schwartzwalder – We write about whatever it is that’s on our minds: politics, sex, murder, corporations, religion, all kinds of shit.
8.) You’ve shared the stage with huge bands, who were your favorite(s)?
Andrew – Mushroomhead, Hed P.E.
Mark – I’d have to say I don’t really have a favorite because fortunately every big band we’ve played with I am a huge fan of; lucky me!
Schwartzwalder – I’d say my absolute favorite was Goatwhore. Those guys are bad ass all around and really fun to party with. We played a sort of fest that had Iron Reagen, Exhumed, Voivod, and, Napalm Death. That was pretty killer! We played with Nile as well and that was a monster of a show!
9.) You are signed to Spread The Metal Records. Can you tell us a little bit about that record label and why Kadaver Dolls decided to sign with them?
Schwartzwalder – We played the Industry Showcase a few years back and Matt from Spread The Metal records was there (they are based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia ). He loved us so he offered Kadaver Dolls a record contract (which percentage wise was great). He was enthusiastic about us and our music but to be honest the only perk we’ve seen from the label is distribution in England; everything else we’ve done our selves.
10.) Let’s talk about your album? Where did you record it? How and when did this album come together? Will there be another album soon? Who is your distribution?
Andrew – Redline recording studio in Venice to. It came together in 2014 when we stepped into the studio. There will be another album soon.
Mark – We recorded this album at Redline Recording Studio in Osprey, Florida with Jason Schmidt. The album came together over about four years of writing. We are currently working on an upcoming album with no release date at this point. Our distributors are plastic head distribution UK, CD Baby, and Disc Maker.
Schwartzwalder – Machines of Death was recorded at Redline Studios in Osprey, Florida by Jason Schmidt (Team Cybergeist, Doc Ruckus). When I joined the band in 2013 all of the songs had pretty much been written; I just added my flair to it, put my own solos to it, and there it was! We are currently writing songs for a follow up album and these songs are BRUTAL! We plan to record a demo of a few of the new songs with Arthur McBarfson from Get Loud Records in Tampa. Our distributor besides Spread The Metal Records (now known as Willpower Ent.) is Plastichead distributors in London, England.
11.) Where can your fans order your album/music?
Andrew – CD Baby or iTunes.
Mark – You can find our music online on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Rhapsody and YouTube. You can also purchase our CD in person at the Den 51 Smoke Shop, and, at our shows.
Schwartzwalder – You can find Machines of Death on iTunes, Amazon.com, Cd Baby, Kadaverdolls.com and Plastichead.com; or come to a KD show and get it straight from us!
12.) Kadaver Dolls have some upcoming shows in September? Care to share where, when, and with who?
Mark – We have a show with Gruesome, Generichrist, Disevered, and, Necrid on September 4th at Crowbar in Ybor City, Florida.
Schwartzwalder – We are playing The Crowbar September 4th with GRUESOME, and our bros in GENERICHRIST! So it should be a killer time! Not to mention I turn thirty on September 5th, so at midnight we are going to RAGE!!!!
13.) Does the band have a street team to help cross promote through different cities?
Andrew – No.
Mark – We do not currently have a street team but would love one!
Schwartzwalder – At the moment we do not have a street team.
14.) Does the band have spokesmodels to help purchase your merchandise?
Andrew – No
Mark – No, we do not have anybody else but ourselves.
Schwartzwalder – We do not have any spokes models but we should. Hit us up people!!!
15.) What are your inspirations in music (national and local/Metal and non Metal wise)?
Andrew – Pantera, GWAR, Slipknot.
Mark – I’m inspired by Metal bands such as Lamb Of God, Slipknot, Gojira, The Black Dahlia Murder, Cannibal Corpse, and many more! I also love 50″s and 60″s music.
Schwartzwalder – I’ve loved Led Zeppelin since birth, if it weren’t for them and Metallica I probably would have never picked up a guitar. I like a lot of music from Classic Rock and Blues to Classical to Brutal Death Metal. My favorite local bands are: DeadLift, GENERICHRIST, Dark Disciple, Riptorn, Servants of the Mist, Archangel, and Psykotribe.
16.) What are the craziest and funniest tour stories you can share with everyone?
Andrew – Haven’t toured yet.
Mark – None yet, but we hope to tour for the first time this year.
Schwartzwalder – No tour stories with Kadaver Dolls yet, but I did go on a weekend warrior tour playing guitar for Servants of the Mist and I’m from Atlanta so when we went through there to play my family came out and my mother got me WASTED! We went to a diner and I passed out at the table; I don’t remember getting back in the van but I woke up at about 6:45 AM and I texted who I thought was Ed Tobar from Servants Of The Mist,
“I’m in the lobby, what’s your room number?” The response I received from him was, “you can’t come in here.”
It pissed me off cause I woke still drunk in a van and it was like seven degrees outside. I texted back, “if you don’t let me in I’m not playing guitar for you tonight!” The response was,” no I need you.” So I asked again,” what’s the room number?” Then the response was again, “you can’t come in here,”.
I was fuming and about that time one of the guys from Servants came into the lobby and took me back to the room where we figured out I had two Ed’s in my phone and I wasn’t texting him the whole time!
17.) Is there anything else you would like to share with your fans?
Andrew – Stay tuned. Our best music is yet to come. We are working on some killer stuff for the next album.
Schwartzwalder – This is a message from Kadaver Dolls to the world, “We will never stop making awesome Heavy Groovy Brutal Metal, so we will see you all real soon!”
