In a live streaming press conference from the MGM Grand Hotel on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, George Strait revealed two big announcements. He’s returning with a new “Strait to Vegas” tour in Las Vegas, Nevada beginning in April 2016, including at least four concerts at the new Las Vegas Arena. He also announced his long-awaited new album, Cold Beer Conversation, out Friday. The title single Cold Beer Conversation will be released to radio Wednesday, September 23 from King George’s album of the same name.
MCA Nashville, a Division of UMG Recordings, Inc., produced the album Cold Beer Conversation include a couple of duets on the album with Jamey Johnson singing backup on a song that he, Buddy Cannon and Bill Anderson wrote called Cheaper Than a Shrink. George and his son, Bubba wrote several songs for Cold Beer Conversation.
Starting in April 2016, George Strait will perform in the brand new 19,000-seat Las Vegas Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada as a kick-off to his handful of “Strait to Vegas” shows. The first four dates announced are April 22, April 23, September 9 and September 10, 2016. Opening for Strait will be the shooting star in Country music Kacey Musgraves.
In the press conference, Strait also opened up about how fortunate he’s been to play the places he has. He reminisced about his earliest shows and his climb in Las Vegas at venues such as the Hilton, the Golden Nugget and the Frontier.
In the streaming press conference, George says, “Who gets to do that? You can’t take that for granted. That’s just so special,” Strait said about his live shows. “It’s hard to describe to anybody what that feels like because it’s just big. When I’m sitting in a rocking chair and can’t hardly move around, years from now, just play me that live record where I can hear that crowd again, because it’s like nothing else.”
George Strait’s “almost” final tour, called The Cowboy Rides Away Tour, began in 2013 and ended in 2014, was a country event of its own; featuring all-star Country music icons saluting him, including Miranda Lambert, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, Faith Hill, Kenny Chesney, Asleep at the Wheel, Vince Gill, Eric Church, and many more.Strait released the Top Ten country single, “Give It All We Got Tonight” and a new album Love Is Everything, just before his farewell journey kicked off in May of 2013.
The final show for The Cowboy Rides Away tour was held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, attracting over 100,000 fans. The show was documented in a live album (The Cowboy Rides Away: Live from AT&T Stadium) and a two-hour television special broadcast on CMT (Country Music Television.)
