The Jupiter Hammerheads opened their four-game series against the Brevard County Manatees with a convincing 10-2 win on Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Austin Dean and Felix Munoz figured heavily in a five-run fourth inning for the Hammerheads and both players ended the night with three hits. Jupiter pounded out 13 hits as a team.
Jupiter (13-22, 48-57 overall) jumped out to an early lead against Brevard County starter Brandon Woodruff (1-5), scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Yefri Perez led off with a walk and quickly stole his 51st base of the season. Austin Dean promptly doubled Perez home, making it a 1-0 game. One out later, Harold Riggins drew a walk and came home on a two-run triple by Munoz. That put the Hammerheads up 3-0.
Woodruff (1-5) suffered the loss. He surrendered three runs on four hits and two walks in three innings. He fanned three.
The Manatees got on the board in the third inning against Jupiter starter Drew Steckenrider. With two outs, Michael Ratterree singled. He was chased home by Rafael Neda’s double, making it 3-1. With Jose Pena up, Hammerheads catcher Rodrigo Vigil allowed a passed ball, moving Neda to third. He was stranded there when Pena whiffed to end the inning.
The Hammerheads put the game out of reach when they scored five runs in the fourth inning, against Manatees reliever Trevor Seidenberger. Munoz, James Roberts and Cameron Flynn all singled, with Flynn’s knock plating Munoz to up the Jupiter lead to 4-1. After Vigil walked to load the bases, Perez popped out. Justin Bohn walked, bringing home Roberts with the fifth run. The big blow followed, a bases clearing double off the bat of Dean, making it an 8-1 game.
Brevard County (14-18, 43-58 overall) got a run back in the top of the fifth. Clint Coulter tripled to left field with one out and came home one out later on a Michael Ratterree double, making it an 8-2 contest. Ratterree tried to go to third on the throw home to try to cut down Coulter. Vigil threw to third and Ratterree was out, ending the inning.
Steckenrider (1-3) earned the win, going five innings and allowing two runs – one earned – on seven hits. He fanned six Manatees on the night.
Jupiter’s last two runs came in the seventh frame. Riggins doubled and went to third on a wild pitch by Manatees reliever Tyler Spurlin. One out later, Roberts brought Riggins home on an RBI single. Cameron Flynn reached on an error by Chris McFarland at second and went to second on the play. With runners on second and third, Vigil singled, scoring Roberts. Flynn tried to score as well, but he was meat at the plate on a good throw by Omar Garcia in center.

Game two of the series will be played Tuesday. Cy Sneed (2-1, 2.67 ERA) will take the mound for the Manatees, against Jupiter hurler Jose Adames (3-2, 3.11 ERA). Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.
