The Cleveland and Northeast Ohio area is a diverse, multi-cultural region and Clevelanders have the opportunity to celebrate the diversity and travel the world without ever leaving the Northeast Ohio region by attending the 7th annual Medina International Fest on Saturday, August 22. It is approximately a 40 minute drive from Cleveland.
Taking place at the downtown Medina Public Square and the 9-block Medina Historical District, the Medina International Festival will feature a wide variety of international entertainment and food celebrating the many cultures of the world. There will also be an International Bazaar with more than 100 vendors offering fine arts, ethnic art work, jewelry, handmade crafts, Turkish lamps, Polish pottery, African beadwork, fair trade coffee and arts and even flowers and vegetables.
The World Music Jamboree musical performers at the Medina International Fest include 7 Mile Isle (Steel Drum Band), Mary’s Lane (Irish & Celtic music), Latin Jazz Players, the Yiddish Club Klezmer band, the Academy of Irish Dance and Djapo Cultural Arts Center presenting African music and dance. All music performances will take place at the World Truck Stage on Broadway Street in front of the Medina County Courthouse This year, the Fest will also feature a Family and Kids Activity Center offering activities like interactive games, physical fitness challenges, dance, martial arts demonstrations and an international photo booth.
Make sure you don’t miss the Children’s International Parade of Nations starting at 1:45 p.m.. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in heritage or native clothing. Starting at 1 p.m., families will have the opportunity to make drums to use at the end of the day (5:30 p.m.) for the Community Drum Circle.
Some of the cultures of food being offered for purchase are Italian, Hungarian, Indian, Mexican, Polish, Cajun and American. Among the participating restaurants are Zydeco Bistro, Old World Foods, Bombay Grill, Bruno’s Ristorante, Fire Truck Pizza Co., Southern Things, The Nosh Box, Crazy Ivan’s, Hobo Gumbo Company and Wholly Frijoles. For dessert, there will be Schloneger’s Ice Cream and items from Rito’s Bakery.
