Doors drummer, John Densmore is keeping busy and keeping visibility in the print media, magazines.
The Local Malibu – Densmore is on the cover of The Local Malibu (see picture above). The magazine is mostly ads but does contain articles on matters of local interest and subjects. Densmore penned the article, in it he gives a brief history of his history with the area. Starting with needing a place to keep the horse Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman gave him (the other members of The Doors also were rewarded with gifts of their choosing). The article closes with his opposition to a mall being built in Malibu. He quotes poet Robert Bly, with whom Densmore used to supply musical backdrop to at poetry readings, that “slow equals soul”. You can read the article online at The Local Malibu, there is an arrow on the right side of the screen that allows you scroll through to the page you want (the article is on page 17), in the lower right two arrows pointing up and down allow you to enlarge the page to full screen, and on the left hand side of the page a slide bar that allows you enlarge the print.
Uncut Magazine – Densmore shares credit as a source with bandmate Robby Krieger, and The Doors engineer Bruce Botnick on the story behind the two post-Morrison Doors albums “Other Voices” and “Full Circle” which have recently been reissued (see related articles below). The blurb quotes Densmore as saying about Morrison, “You needed three stable guys to balance Dionysus.” The cover features Rod Stewart and The Faces reunion, Julian Cope talks about his solo albums, “World Shut Your Mouth” and “Fried”. The issue is considered the November 2015 issue and was released today, September 22. Uncut magazine now at a newstand near you.
Feel the Bern with the Dens – Densmore will be hosting (giving an introduction) “Window of Opportunity”, a film he produced and for which he is having a screening for on October 28, with all proceeds going to Bernie Sanders presidential campaign. The event is getting a lot of press in articles about celebrities who support Sanders. The Washington Post has compiled a comprehensive list, Jambands has a full list of musicians that support Sanders, Digital Journal has an article as well, just to mention a few if not a couple. If you’re looking for more enticement to attend the screening of “Window of Opportunity”, Densmore has invited Tony Funches to the screening and will be attending. So if you’re lucky you may get to meet Mr. Funches, who is a really cool guy and see a good movie.
