Jim Carrey and Cathriona White had been dating during the past three years, and following White’s apparent suicide on Monday night, Carrey shared his shock and deep sadness in a statement on Tuesday. The actor’s words also shed light on why White might have chosen to take her own life – Cathriona was “too sensitive for this soil.”
As reported by Marie Claire on September 29, Jim Carrey said the following insightful words about his ex-girlfriend: “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
Jim Carrey and Cathriona met first in 2012 and the couple dated for a few months. In May of this year, Carrey and White were seen together again, but reportedly split before the suspected suicide.
According to a Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office spokesperson, a note was found with White’s body and pills were located near her. However, until toxicology results confirm White’s cause of death, it is not officially ruled a suicide.
Like Jim Carrey, other friends of Cathriona White are also expressing their shock. They describe the 30-year-old Irish native who was found dead in her Los Angeles home on Monday night as a “nice, sweet, and cheerful person” who “left a trail behind of smiles” for those who met her. Ali Levine, a stylist who had just recently worked on a photo shoot with White, commented that she was as shocked as Jim Carrey by Cathriona’s death. “I am shocked because I never saw this in a million years coming.”
