Jessa Duggar introduced her new baby’s name to the world this week, but the reception has been rather mixed so far. Some media sources are calling the child’s name, Spurgeon, one of the “worst” names ever for a baby in recent memory, while others are saying that the name was no doubt chosen for its past religious significance. Regardless, Jessa Duggar Seewald and her partner Ben Seewald are very proud and happy to have brought their child, to be nicknamed Quincy, into the world. DB Techno News shares some of the latest details on the discussion surrounding Spurgeon and the big baby announcement this Thursday, November 12, 2015.
There have been a number of strange and unique baby names in recent years, especially by popular celebrity parents. Some of these included Apple from Gwyneth Paltrow, Royal Reign from Lil Kim, and Sunday Molly from Mike Myers. The latest name to make pop culture headlines comes from the Duggar family, who recently took to Twitter to share their darling bundle of joy with the world this week. The child in question’s name? It’s something of a mouthful: Spurgeon Elliot Seewald. The name has sparked some serious talk online from both supporters and nay-sayers alike.
“We are very excited to introduce our little baby boy to the world,” Jessa says in the newly uploaded video on her family’s website as well as TLC.com. “We’ve been working on deciding on a name, and we finally figured it out.”
Thanks to PEOPLE News and an update from Yahoo this week, some new information regarding the details of the baby’s birth, weight, and name has been made available. Little Spurgeon came into this world at a very healthy 9 pounds and 11 ounces. He was born just a week ago on November 5. As for his namesake? He received his unique name (though some people are already calling it the “worst,” notes DB Techno) in honor of Charles Spurgeon, a very well known preacher from Great Britain back in the 1800s. The child’s nickname will be Quincy.
“He had a big impact on our lives,” Ben shared alongside his wife Jessa Duggar with the rest of the world in the new baby name video. Coverage on the story can also be found in the media news clip featured above this article. “His writings and his sermons and books are still around today, and they just continue to impact many, many people.”
According to Yahoo, the first name of the Seewald family’s baby boy is highly unusual in this day and age. Although it was more common well over a century ago, it was never exactly a popular name. The name managed to make it into the top 1,000 names from the late 1800s into the early 20th century, with its most popular time dating back to 1892, with the passing of Charles Haddon Spurgeon.
What do you think of Jessa Duggar’s new baby name? Do you find the christening of Spurgeon, as well as his nickname Quincy, to be cute at a button? The 23-year-old mom shared with a fan that she would not really be calling the little boy Spurgeon or his middle name Elliot all that much, despite that being the legal appellation, for she liked the nickname Quincy instead.
