Hunger Games star, Jennifer Lawrence, was deemed the highest paid actress of 2015. Lawrence really began her acting career in 2007 with a role in The Bill Engvall Show which opened many doors for the young actress as she then appeared in two independent series including The Burning Pain in 2008 and Winter’s Bone in 2010. All of these accomplishments lead her to snag the role as Mystique in X-Men: First Class in 2011.
Looking at all the success and achievements Jennifer Lawrence has had since 2007, it’s no wonder she tops the list of the highest paid actresses. According to Etonline on August 20, the Forbes 12 month list of highest paid actresses has Jennifer Lawrence at the top making a miraculous $52 million dollars. The 25 year old actress takes the lead ahead of Scarlett Johansson who earned just below $52 million at $35.5, placing her in second. Johansson’s recent roles in Lucy and The Avengers: Age of Ultron contributes most to her success.
On August 20, ABCNews reports that Melissa McCarthy slides in to the third highest paid actress with $23 million. McCarthy had major success with her clothing line which contributes most to her 23 million she clocks in with. Her clothing line called Seven7 will be releasing this fall. Bingbing Fan comes in fourth just after Melissa McCarthy with $21 million; and surprisingly well known actress Jennifer Aniston comes in fifth at $16.5 million nearly tying with Julia Roberts who made $16 million. Half of Forbes full list also includes the following:
7. Reese Witherspoon and Angelina Jolie tie at $15 million
8. Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart tie at $12 million
9. Cameron Diaz $11 million
Forbes reported on August 20 that the whole list of 18 highest-paid actresses combined earned $281 million. This of course is before taxes and fees. Though all the earnings were combined it was still $660 million less than the list of 34 World’s Highest Paid Actors. The list of the World’s Highest Paid Actors made an outstanding $941 million.
The pay gap was publicized greatly along side of Jennifer Lawrence’s headlines that revealed she and her costar received lower profits than their counterpart males. It was reported that Lawrence and Amy Adams received a 7% profit while Christian Bale, Jeremy Renner and Bradley Cooper received a 9% cut.
It has been said that Hunger Games is one of very few significant movies with a main character starring a woman. Recent studies claim that only 20% of the 100 top grossing 2014 films were female; meaning it is more difficult for women to nail a major blockbuster role. Amy Pascal, Sony’s former co-chair, claimed in 2013 that the top female stars are getting paid the same as their counterparts. She claims the main reason the averages aren’t working is because of the lack of parts for women.
Jennifer Lawrence has yet to comment on her major success topping Forbes list. Her fans are eager to see if she tops next years list as she has major roles in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2, releasing in November, and X-Men: Apocalypes, releasing in 2016. Though one thing is true, no matter her wages or if she was deemed the highest paid actress, she will always have the love of her fans.
