Fitness Expert Jean “Geno” Sylvain knows first hand what it is like to battle obesity. After successfully dropping a significant amount of weight he wanted to find a way to help others that may be struggling in their fitness journey. Sylvain has taken particular interest in helping veterans stay in shape after coming home. He also invented his own exercise machine, opened a gym in Queens New York, created a line of food products and has created a weight-loss program which is creating a lot of buzz. Geno explains his training technique below and shares how to fit breakfast in with his Abster cookie.
NYFE: Why do you think so many Veterans are overweight?
Most veterans are overweight because they continue to eat the same types of foods they were eating while they are active. When they stop being active eating those same types of foods can cause weight gain.
NYFE: Who is your most memorable client and why?
I have two clients that are memorable; the first is a 17-year-old ectomorph boy that was so skinny his ribs punctured his lungs. After working with him I managed to make him gain 30lbs to keep him alive.
My second memorable client is wheelchair bound Marine vet that I met 7years ago. His injury was caused by an accident fall from a 4-story building shattering his spine paralyzing him from the waist down. With several training sessions and dedication I had him walking in less than 4 months. We still train together! Once my veteran clients complete my workout program I put them on a maintaining nutrition plan and my portable affordable apparatus Abster that they can use anywhere for continued training.
NYFE: What are tips that you offer veterans to stay on track once they have completed your program?
Eating breakfast is the most important meal of the day but in many cases people have an excuse for not finding the time to cook or to sit down for an extra 10-15 min to eat breakfast. I’ve created a gluten free breakfast cookie (Abster) that can be eaten on the go and perfect for traveling! I encourage my clients to incorporate this into their daily routine. Drinking more water per day for better health & digestive system to regulate is so important. I’ve also created a three-filtered water to help people consume more (love yourself naked) along with a meal plan book to help with losing weight.
