Jason Falbo is a landscaper whose sadistic act of running over a mother duck and her 11 ducklings with a commercial lawn mower landed him in jail on a $27,000 bond. The south Florida landscaper was mowing a client’s yard when he mowed down the mother duck and her babies as the family who owned the house watched in horror from inside their home, according to Sports Act News on May 15.
Boyd Jentzsch said his family, which included his 7-year-old son, watched the ducks waddling around the yard when 24-year-old Falbo deliberately aimed the mower and ran the ducks over. You can imagine the gruesome scene that unfolded instantly, traumatizing the young boy who started screaming.
Jentzsch ran outside and confronted Falbo who smiled and then backed up the lawn mower and ran the ducks over again. Jentzsch called the police immediately and the county’s Animal Care and Control. The calls came into the various authorities about 2:30 p.m., according to police.
The Sun Sentinel reports the ducks were a family of Muscovy ducks who lived outside in the area around the lake near the Jentzsch’s backyard. The mother duck and her ducklings were eating their lunch in a grassy area near a tree in the Jentzsch backyard when the lawn mower hit the ducklings. Seven of the ducklings were killed. The mother duck and two of her baby ducks ran into the lake, but the two ducklings drowned.
In all nine ducklings died, including the two that drowned in the lake. A mother and two ducklings survived this senseless and cruel act. Later that afternoon the Jentzsch family watched as the mother duckling came back looking for her brood, which was a heartbreaking scene.
“Everything was flying in the air, the blade was so powerful. It was horrific,” said Laura Gontchar, who watched this gruesome scene unfold with Jentzsche and their son, who is 7. She said her son loved the ducks and he was screaming when he saw what Falbo was doing.
The ducks would waddle up to their backyard and their son would love to watch them. The ducklings couldn’t be more than a few days old, said Gontchar. The Palm Beach Police report on this incident included, “the ducklings lost their lives cruelty and viciously with extreme intent.”
Falbo, who hails from Royal Palm Beach, is being held on a $27,000 bond in the Palm Beach Jail on nine counts of animal cruelty. It is probably safe to say that his career in the landscaping business in not looking too promising.
