Jason Falbo has some dead ducks on his conscience. Falbo deliberately mowed up a family of ducks while riding a landscape mower through the yard of a home in Wellington, Florida.
A dozen ducks were caught up in the mower after Falbo, a self-employed landscaper, intentionally ran them over. Of the mother and her 11 ducklings, nine were killed, leaving only the mother duck and two babies.
Writes CBS News: “The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that police arrested 24-year-old Jason Falbo of Royal Palm Beach on Wednesday. He’s charged with nine counts of animal cruelty. Authorities say he mowed down the ducks May 2 at the home of a family caring for them in Wellington. The family says the ducklings were a few days old.”
Boyd Jentzsch says his family was raising the ducks. To the homeowner’s horror – including a seven-year-old boy – they watched as Falbo made no effort to maneuver the riding mower around the family, pulling them up inside of the spinning blades, mutilating them.
It all started like any normal day when neighbor Boyd Jentzsch and his son, Kai, put out food for the family of Muscovy birds that lived outside their Wellington home. But as they watched out their patio door at the mother and her 11 babies peck at their food, the lawn worker plotted a different fate for them. Laura Gontchar was with her husband when the lawnmower struck the animals at her neighbor’s home.
The malicious landscaper, according to multiple sources, was laughing as he ran over the family, not once, but twice, making a second pass with his mower.
Jason Falbo: Duck enemy number one.
“What are you doing?” Jentzsch remembers screaming. “These are our friends. These are our babies, we love to feed them! Why are you laughing? We were horrified. I couldn’t believe it was happening. It was totally disgusting.”
Falbo was charged with nine counts of animal cruelty – one count for each duckling he mowed over – and is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail on $27,000 bail.
Falbo claims it was an accident. No way, says the family.
Adds the Fla. Sun Sentinel: “Jentzch and his wife, Laura Gontchar say that’s not how it looked from their perspective. They say their family had been watching and enjoying the ducks ever since they hatched a few days before. They were watching out their patio window when suddenly ‘a flurry of feathers, bones and small beaks went flying in the air.’”
To animal lovers, Jason Falbo just became a dead duck.
