Yesterday, the multi-talented Grammy award winning singer, Janet Jackson, bought her amazing UnBreakable Tour to the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, TN. The sold-out show was highly awaited after Janet being away for 4 years. (We missed her much!)
Before, the show started the crowd was filled with a live dance party lead by Jackson’s own deejay. He mastered the 1’s and 2’s well mixing some of Janet’s old and new songs blending them with features from past artists she had worked with like Kanye West and Q-Tip.
The night opened up with her recent single from the “Unbreakable” album called,”Burnitup,” featuring Missy Elliot which delivered an up tempo dance beat. There was also a video playing along with the song which displayed Missy Elliott. (She also included the video when she performed “No Sleeep” featuring J. Cole.)
After setting the stage, Jackson delivered wearing all black attire adorned with gold jewelry and her big long curly hair that twirled and whipped as she showcased her choreography. Jackson was supported by her back up dancers called the “JTribe” and her spectacular band. The tone was set with a futuristic stage as we walked through her musical catalog with the songs we all love and tried to emulate whether by singing or dance routines.
The show started out with the dance tracks rolling through fast. However, this didn’t stop Janet from making the performances special with unique light treatments and visual images when she performed : “Nasty,” “Miss You Much,” “Control,” ” When I Think of You, ” “Together Again, ” “Love Will Never Do” and many more classics.
Next, Jackson took a seat center stage and shared a sincere moment with her fans as she asked for crowd participation with her slow ballads and love songs. The crowd made a strong attempt to honor the request and serenade Jackson.
She made all her fans dreams come true as she performed : “Anytime, Anyplace,” “That’s the Way Loves Go,” “Let’s Wait a While,”and the heartfelt crowd favorite from the movie Poetic Justice “Again.”
From there the rock-star quality kicked in as Jackson got into her rock-star-mode while performing her Rhythm Nation (5-4-3-2-1) choreography. Next, she kicked into high gear with the roaring guitar and dance moves for her song “Black Cat.”
As the show went on, Janet shared a major highlight with a phenomenal tribute to her beloved big brother Michael Jackson with their hit duo song “Scream.”
In the last part of the show Jackson delivered a powerful new track “After the Fall.” She even shed light to the world’s issues with inequality, social injustice, and homelessness.
Later, at the close of the concert she took the time to speak to the audience and thank her fans for their love and support of not only her but her family over the years.
Overall, this was an epic and magical concert experience. Concert-goer Ann T. said, “Janet’s performance demonstrated her love of music and that her fans are here to stay.”
